ANNOUNCEMENTS

Principal's Message

May has been a busy month thus far! Thank you to all our great volunteers and staff members for their work on the Volunteer Brunch, field days, and the musical. What wonderful ways to celebrate a great year!

Please remember that the Confidential Placement Form is located on the Dunwoody Elementary website and should be turned into the office by May 26. The forms strictly remain with the administration and are not handed to the teachers. They offer an opportunity for you to share any particular concerns that may impact your child's homeroom placement for next year. Keep in mind that grades 3-5 are departmentalized and students have more limited contact with each individual teacher.

Therefore, homeroom placement may not be as much of a concern for grades 3-5. I am always humbled by the very personal stories and situations shared in the confidence of my office. I know that it is difficult to share private family situations, but at times, those stories can help me make certain that your children receive optimal care and attention. Thank you for trusting me with your information so that I can be of better service to you and your family.

Our teachers have been diligently planning for our next school year. Using our current test scores and perception data, we are hoping to change and add to our program so that DES continues to grow. We have hired approximately 10 new staff members along with some movement of existing staff to make sure we have the best teachers in the right spots.

Thank you for all your work this month! Please continue to encourage your children to do their best and listen to the teacher as we approach these last two weeks of the school year.

Jennifer Sanders,
Principal, Dunwoody Elementary School
From the PTO Co-Presidents

As we approach this final full week of school, it is amazing how quickly this year has passed!  The last two weeks of school will be quite busy, and we so appreciate your support in making things run smoothly!
  • Please remember to have your children wear sunscreen and bring their water bottles for field days! Thanks so much to Kris Mamaghani for her collaboration with Mrs. Reynolds and Coach K to plan these fun days for our children!
  • The students will certainly enjoy the in school performances of Aladdin! Mrs. Miller, Ms. Esartia, Ms. Janney, and Mr. Ennis have put so much time, energy, and creative effort in working with the talented cast to create this excellent production!  Students will have the opportunity to see the play during school on Tuesday, May 17.  A limited number of tickets will be available for the subsequent shows on Thursday and Friday evenings at 6:00 and 7:30pm.  If your family or friends would like to see the show, tickets will be sold for $5 (CASH ONLY) prior to each show until they are sold out!  For safety reasons, a finite number of tickets are available.
  • Thank you so much to Emily Ceo and Rosemary Gorham for all of their hard work on the yearbook!  It looks great, and it captures this wonderful year so well!
  • Honor's celebrations will take place on May 25 at 8:30 for third graders, May 25 at 9:30 for fourth graders, and May 26 at 8:30 for all fifth graders!
  • End of year parties will be at 1:15pm on May 26.  Please remember that only those who have signed up to assist with the party will be allowed in the building for safety purposes. These names will be turned in by homeroom teachers and checked at the door.
  • Thank you to Jordan Winters and Amanda Becker for organizing our final Chick-fil-a Spirit Night last week! We appreciate all who came out to support DES!
Have a great week!

Jennifer Fenmore and Megan Cann

The study will review feeder patterns, re-clustering attendance areas, additions to schools and new/replacement schools.

Five regional community meetings in three rounds for the public to participate in this process. Those dates are:

DES Dads, please come to our All Pro Dad Breakfast this month.

Please arrive for breakfast in the cafeteria (6:45 - 7:15am)
Program will begin in the media center at 7:20.
This month's topic is "Finishing Well"

All Pro Dad Dad's Day is a simple idea with a profound impact. It's a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria. During this time, we will discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and leave equipped with resources to strengthen your relationship with your child.

The program is fun and free! All you need to do is attend, and if you want to purchase breakfast, you may do so in the cafeteria by using your child's myschoolbucks account, cash or check ($1.65 adults, $1.20 children). If you do not have a myschoolbucks account, please register for one at MySchoolBucks.com before the meeting.

To help with keeping the parking lot and carpool drop off running smoothly, please park at GA Perimeter College and walk over to school.

PTO Technology Team Needs Your Help!

Do you have web skills?  Do you want to make a difference for our DES families?  Please help us with the technology behind the registration process.

The PTO Tech team is still looking for help setting up the DES 2016/2017 Registration System. We are looking for someone with web related skills to help us move our registration process forward for the next school year.  You will enable our school to automate the registration process, school directory, and basic setup of the iPads parents will use during the registration process.

The group will meet a few times over the summer to setup and test - and of course you will be one of the first ones to be registered avoiding any lines.

Please contact Andrew Ziffer for more details.
