ANNOUNCEMENTS

From our Principal

Greetings!

We are rapidly approaching the end of the school year with only five weeks until the official start of summer vacation.  Relish every moment you can as we are reminded how quickly the school year passes.

Staff members are not only preparing for the end of the year by holding parent conferences and hosting end-of-year celebrations, but they are also meeting to plan programs and growth opportunities for next year.  The end of the year becomes such a busy time that you will want to plan to address any concerns with your child's teacher in the next couple of weeks.  I encourage you to not schedule conferences the last two weeks of the school year.

Additionally, keep in mind that the Confidential Placement Form will be available on our school website beginning May 1.  Please use this form to provide any specific information we should consider when placing your child in a homeroom.  The administrative staff will be the only ones previewing and addressing the concerns reported on the form so please be frank and straight forward.  We would like to make appropriate placements now instead of dealing with any conflicts in August.  Keep in mind that you MAY NOT request a specific teacher.

As always, we will have staffing changes for next year.  We have four staff members who have opted to not return for the 2016-2017 year.  Mrs. Leymann and Mrs. Y. Miller will remain at home with their children, Ms. Erves will pursue other career paths, and Mrs. Davis will move to Gainesville with her husband. We wish them well on their journeys!

Thank you,
Jennifer Sanders
Principal, Dunwoody Elementary School
From the PTO Co-Presidents

Thanks so much to Mrs. Norman for organizing a lovely Evening of the Arts at DES!  What a wonderful opportunity to see all of the work of so many talented young artists at DES! Thanks, also, to Mrs. Miller and Ms. Esartia and to the band and orchestra for sharing their talents with our community!  Great job!

Moreover, Chris Wilburn has done a terrific job with All Pro Dads this year! We appreciate his diligence and all of you who come out monthly to spend some time with your children while learning skills to augment your parenting skills!

We are still looking for individuals to assist with in-house volunteers, technology, grant writing, and cultural awareness next year.  More information is available at www.dunwoodypto.com. If you are interested, please let us know!
