ANNOUNCEMENTS

From the PTO Co-Presidents

While some folks were enjoying down time over spring break with their families, several PTO volunteers were working diligently to complete tasks!

Shana Sullivan and Laurie Nichols finalized plans for new incentives for our Community Business Supporters for the 2016-2017 school year! They had a banner made that will be on display showing those companies who have supported us this year!

Michelle Lane and Ms. Gurin finalized details for our visiting author, Caldecott Award Winner Dan Santat! The PTO was able to donate a signed copy of the book to each first grade classroom! Thanks for your support!

Thanks so much to Dan Geist, Tommy McNeese, Jennifer Boettcher, and the Dunwoody Nature Center for the fantastic new signs on our nature trail!

The are complete with QR codes to allow access to even more information about the plants and trees on the trail!

Thanks to all of our volunteers!  We appreciate you!

School Council Elections

The School Council Parent Representative Election will be held Thursday, April 21. You may vote in the front office between 7am and 7pm. This date is also Evening of the Arts.

You may vote for up to three candidates and the top three individuals receiving votes will serve a two-year term. The parent bios may be seen in the front office, HERE, and on the school website. (On the DES website, you will see "School Council" once you click on the "About Us" tab.) Thank you to those parents listed below for offering their leadership to School Council.

School Supplies Made Easy!

The DES PTO is offering you an easy way to order school supplies for the 2016-2017 school year.

To start, go to the ShopKits.com website and put in our school code to find supply lists and pricing for every grade (remember to choose the grade your child will start in the fall).

You must order before the end of the school year on May 27.
The supplies will be sent to your home the week of July 24.

Our school code is 74509

*Shipping IS included in the price listed, so there are no surprises at checkout.

**Please note that there are slight differences in pricing for girls and boys for some grades. Their lists include a few different items for the classroom. For example, the list for 1st-grade boys includes antibacterial soap. For 1st-grade girls, the list includes hand sanitizer.

***5th grade families - the three reading books that your child needs for Social Studies and Language Arts are not included and you will need to purchase separately.

If you have any questions, please contact Janet Ziffer.

News From the Media Center

The Media Center website has recently been updated. You can now go under ABC's of Destiny to find directions on how to use Destiny for student research (much safer than just "Googling it"), lexile information has it's own tab, and a list of Ms. Gurin's Recommended Mystery Reader Read Alouds is now included!

As always, you can also find information on the following:
  • Signing Up for a Public Library Card
  • Reading Level Correlation Chart
  • Georgia Chapter Book Award Nominees (Reading Bowl Books)
  • Cybersafety
  • DCSD Summer Reading Author Recommendations
Go to: www.dunwoodyelementary.com > Media Center (tab on the left side)
Wake Up to a Simpler School Day

  • School breakfast offers fresh fruit daily, whole grains, fat free or low fat milk, it's also low in calories, fat, and sodium.
  • It is healthy and convenient, plus it is less than $2 per meal.
