Heritage Lunch Day

What's a Heritage Lunch?

Everyone has a heritage!
Let's celebrate it!
  • On Thursday, March 17, all students are encouraged to pack a lunch including their favorite foods from their heritage!
  • Discover more about your heritage and celebrate our cultural differences!
  • Learn about foods from other cultures through asking guided questions during lunchtime! (Remember, don't share food.)

Cultural Arts Dinner and Talent Exhibition

Mark your calendars and join us for our Cultural Arts Dinner and Talent Exhibition on Thursday, March 17, from 5 to 8pm. The Book Fair will be open that night, too.

Please also plan to make and share your favorite family dish for our potluck dinner. Use the link below to sign up to bring an appetizer, side dish, main course or dessert. Drop off your dishes in the school cafeteria between 5 and 5:15pm. Dinner will begin at 5:30 and last until 6:15, followed by our talent exhibition at 6:30.

DES Dads, please come to our All Pro Dad Breakfast this month.

Friday, March 18 - 6:45 to 7:45am.

Please arrive for breakfast in the cafeteria (6:45 - 7:15am)
Program will begin in the media center at 7:20.
This month's topic is "Being Brave"

All Pro Dad Dad's Day is a simple idea with a profound impact. It's a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria. During this time, we will discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and leave equipped with resources to strengthen your relationship with your child.

The program is fun and free! All you need to do is attend, and if you want to purchase breakfast, you may do so in the cafeteria by using your child's myschoolbucks account, cash or check ($1.65 adults, $1.20 children). If you do not have a myschoolbucks account, please register for one at MySchoolBucks.com before the meeting.

To help with keeping the parking lot and carpool drop off running smoothly, please park at GA Perimeter College and walk over to school.

Please visit our chapter website for dates and more information.

GET INVOLVED

Action Ministries
Feed the Hungry Foundation

Dunwoody Elementary will team up with Action Ministries - Feed the Hungry Foundation in an effort to feed children in a nearby county that have been identified as not having enough to eat.  Without our help, these children would only receive one meal a day - the meal that they receive from their school lunchroom cafeteria.

Our school can help by collecting food items that make up a healthy part of their diet.  In order to avoid adding to obesity, Action Ministries has teamed up with a hospital dietician, and have requested only certain items to be collected:

* Individual Cereal Packets
* Fruit cups
* Cup O Soup (instant soup mixes)
* Libby's Sweet Corn or other veggie envelopes
* Ramen Noodles
* Instant mac-n-cheese packs
* Campbell's Chicken Soup
* Instant Oatmeal envelopes

Selected students will receive a backpack with these items pre-bagged.

We are not required to bag or sort -
Just Collect.....
Thanks, Lynn Johnston

School Store Volunteers Needed

The School Store has volunteer slots open in March, April, and May and we need you! Please consider signing up for just one of these shifts.

The children LOVE it and we hate to turn them away if we don't have the volunteers to staff it. It's also a great way to get in your volunteer hours before the work days starts!

The school store is open from 7:10 - 7:40am on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the cafeteria.

You can sign up at the following link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0949acad22a13-school.

If you have any questions about the day or time, or what to do if you're new, please do not hesitate to ask!

Chamblee Charter High School would like to invite your students to participate in our first annual math competition competition for elementary school students, ChaMATHon on March 26th, 2016. We would greatly appreciate it if you could encourage your students and parents to register and participate in this competition by spreading word through the math department and the school e-blast/newsletter.

The online registration form can be found at: http://goo.gl/forms/wxmjpP4bFn

This math competition is for students from grades 3-6, with Division I for the 3rd-4th graders, and Division II for the 5th-6th graders. The tournament will be held from 9am-12:30pm. There will be a culminating award ceremony for the top three schools and the top ten individuals in each division.

Each school will be allowed to send as many students as it wishes, at an entrance fee of $10 per student. The top four individual scores and ciphering scores will be totaled for the final school score. Snacks and lunch will be provided.

Every student will complete in a 45 minute written multiple choice exam with 20 questions, and 5 open-answer tiebreakers, as well as a 10 problem ciphering round with short questions to be answered within 2 minutes. Correct answers within one minute will earn 4 points, while correct answers within the second minute will earn 2 points.
