ANNOUNCEMENTS

From the PTO Co-Presidents

We end February with our spirit night at Jason's Deli on Tuesday the 23rd. Come out and support DES and PTO while enjoying a night out with family and friends.

March is a busy month for the PTO. Our Staff Appreciation committee is hard at work preparing for Staff Appreciation week March 7-10.  In addition, our Book Fair chairs are gearing up for our Spring Book Fair which is held March 15-17. During Book Fair week we will hold the last Principal's Coffee, the Cultural Arts Dinner and Performances, and All Pro Dad. Thank you to all of our volunteers for ensuring these events are a success!

Inspirational Allies
No Place for Hate Regional Contest

Every year the Anti-defamation League Southeast Region has a No Place for HateŽ student contest where they ask students to think about ways they can build a world without hate. The theme this year is Inspirational Allies.  An ally is defined as someone who speaks out on behalf of someone else or takes actions that are supportive of someone else. Being  a part of No Place for Hate school, means we are asking students to make the transition from being bystanders or aggressors, to being allies.

On the DES Counseling Website, you will find the contest flyer, as well as the entry form and rules: http://dunwoodyescounseling.weebly.com/counselors-corner-blog/inspirational-allies-contest1. Students can be creative through artistic expression like: original written essays, poetry, short stories or art/media including videos, drawings etc. Let your children know there are prizes for the winners and they will be recognized at an awards ceremony on April 17, 2016. Submissions should be sent through the mail by parent or guardian. The postmark deadline for all entries is March 11, 2016!

Coach Steve Schneider has been a teacher and chess coach for over 25 years. Championship Chess teams have won local, regional, state and national tournaments. Coaches utilize the Championship Chess curriculum introducing, reinforcing and improving chess skills and strategies in the opening, middle and end game.
