ANNOUNCEMENTS

From our Principal
Greetings!

Our winter took an interesting turn with the "snow" event a week ago! Thanks to all parents who tuned into our social media and web page to see the times for dismissal.  Parents were all at the bus stop to receive students and only a few were returned to the school.  All students were safely home by 11:15am - kudos to all!

We also had a water main break at the Georgia State Perimeter campus last Monday leaving DES without water for a couple of hours.  The district requires schools to make a decision in a two hour period regarding evacuation.  In the event of evacuation, we go to Dunwoody High School to continue our instructional day.

The response from both DCSD and DeKalb Water Shed was better than expected!  DCSD transportation had 15 buses in place by 8:45 AM in case the decision was made to evacuate.  Water Shed Management worked quickly knowing that a possible school evacuation was impending.  They were able to repair the line and check for leaks within our decision making time period. Great work by all!

We are looking forward to celebrating Black History Month at DES!  This year, our teachers and students are decorating doors to represent Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), which fits nicely with the national theme, Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories.  We will culminate a month of learning with an assembly designed to honor and inspire our great leaders.

Please pay close attention to any guidelines your child's teacher has regarding our school wide Valentine's exchange, and remember that we have a four day weekend scheduled this month.

Jennifer Sanders, Principal - DES
