ANNOUNCEMENTS

From the PTO Co-Presidents

It's the time of the year where we want to pause and say thank you to all of our DES families. From the many hours our volunteers put in everyday to the many dollars our families have donated to Tiger Fund for the programs and services that we offer our students throughout the year. We are thankful everyday for the abundance of generosity we find from our terrific Dunwoody Elementary School families.

Thanks to the generosity of our families, your Annual Dues payment of $35 helped pay for all 133 teachers, staff, bus drivers, and Mr. Larry, our crossing guard, holiday cash gift, totaling $12,250. We are thankful that we are able to give our teachers, administration, and staff a little something extra at the holidays. Your $35 annual dues has helped us do just that.

Without the tireless hours that our volunteers spend at the school each day, we would not be able to offer our children so many wonderful programs throughout the year. From Cultural Arts to Field Day, Lunch Bunch to Room Parents, many events and programs outside of the daily curriculum are run by parent volunteers. If you volunteer at the school, please take a few moments to log your volunteer hours on our PTO website. We are grateful for your time and dedication and we want to reward you with our monthly raffles, Volunteer of the Month parking spot, and in the Spring at our Volunteer Brunch.

Just a quick note about the last day of school before the holiday break. We have the following events happening on Friday, December 18th:
  • All Pro Dad
  • Cultural Arts program
  • Winter Celebrations
Please remember that parking is at a minimum, so please utilize the Georgia Perimeter College Parking lot. Also, please be courteous to other parents as you enter and exit the building and avoid double parking or blocking other vehicles. Also, remember  if you are not on the class list for your child's class party, you will not be permitted to enter the classroom on the 18th.

Have a great week!

Counseling Groups

If you are a parent of a PreK - 2nd Grade student and you believe your student would benefit from a small counseling group Spring semester, please consult with your child's teacher and complete a Parent Needs Assessment. Small groups for PK-2 will be held by grade level during lunch.

Skill-building and problem-solving small group Lunch Bunches follow a curriculum, require parental consent, and focus on self-concept, friendship, and school success. Follow the link for the Parent Needs Assessment pdf file. The completion of this form will help me tailor each group to the students' needs. After each small group meeting, I will follow up with an email on what was discussed and how it can be reinforced at home. http://dunwoodyescounseling.weebly.com/counselors-corner-blog/parent-referral-for-for-small-counseling-group

Thank you,

Black History Month

The teacher planning committee for BHM will begin meeting in January. The committee welcomes participation of parents and community in the planning of our month of celebration.

The first meeting will be January 4 at 10:30am. If you are interested in participating, please contact teacher Lashonda Nelson.
DES Lunch Bunch Needs You!

DES Lunch Bunch needs you!  Lunch Bunch is a group of volunteers who help out in the cafeteria during lunch. The volunteers help the children with their lunch needs such as opening up containers and wiping down the tables. It is a great way to see your child at lunchtime and meet their classmates. The children love to see the parents help out and be part of DES. Please consider helping out this holiday season and 2nd semester. A signup for 2nd semester will be coming out soon. Your help is a big part of what makes DES such a great school. We look forward to seeing you at lunch!!!

Please email Erika Cuttino or Andrea Perez if you have any questions.

Little Bricks of Hope

Dunwoody Tigers, We need your help!

Dunwoody Elementary School is partnering with a great local charity called Little Bricks of Hope (LBH) this holiday season in an effort to help build smiles across Atlanta.

Little Bricks of Hope is a program administered by Hope Laugh Play, Inc. It is hosted on-site at area hospitals, camps and schools, and provides LEGO sets to children suffering from illness, disabilities or other life challenges.

This year DES is helping Little Bricks of Hope supply LEGO sets for the holiday season. Here are the ways that you can help:

  1. You can purchase a LEGO set and drop it off at the school. The donation bins are located right inside the front door. Sets in the $15 to $25 range are most commonly used by the charity. These are the most popular LEGO sets:
    * DUPLO
    * FRIENDS
    * STAR WARS
    * SUPERHEROES
    * LEGO CITY

    Please note: Only new LEGO sets can be used due to medical challenges of some of our children.

  2. You can go to www.hopelaughplay.org and donate directly on HOPE LAUGH PLAY's website. The average cost of a LEGO set is $20.

  3. You can also donate by purchasing a raffle ticket for a chance to win a LEGO Star Wars Death Star and other prizes at https://rallyup.com/lego-star-wars-raffle.

Thank you for helping us build smiles,
Dunwoody Elementary PTO
