Greetings!
The State Department of Education has released the Georgia Milestone results for Georgia. On our school website, you will find information showing the results for DES along with surrounding schools. I am proud of the work accomplished by our students and our teachers, and we are already analyzing our data for improvement.
Test data for Georgia Milestones is reported at four levels of proficiency: Level 1 (Beginning Learner), Level 2 (Developing Learner), Level 3 (Proficient Learner), and Level 4 (Distinguished Learner). Our school performance results focus on the percentage of students at Levels 3 and 4. Individual test results have not been released to the schools at this time. Once we have them, the district will determine the date that they will be sent home by all schools. Information will be available on our website to help you read and analyze your child's report. The stakes for the 2016 Spring administration of the GA Milestone test will be high since it will indicate promotion or retention for students in grades 3 and 5. Students in grades 3 will need a Level 2, 3, or 4 in Reading and Vocabulary. Students in grades 5 will need a Level 2, 3, or 4 in Reading and Vocabulary plus Math. Now that our teachers and students have seen the test, they feel more confident with the next administration. Again, I couldn't be more proud of the performance of our students and teachers based on the initial administration of the Georgia Milestones. We are hopeful that the interventions in place this school year will help to support and improve our scores this Spring.

Little Bricks of Hope

Dunwoody Tigers, We need your help!
Dunwoody Elementary School is partnering with a great local charity called Little Bricks of Hope (LBH) this holiday season in an effort to help build smiles across Atlanta.
Little Bricks of Hope is a program administered by Hope Laugh Play, Inc. It is hosted on-site at area hospitals, camps and schools, and provides LEGO sets to children suffering from illness, disabilities or other life challenges.
This year DES is helping Little Bricks of Hope supply LEGO sets for the holiday season. Here are the ways that you can help:
- You can purchase a LEGO set and drop it off at the school. The donation bins are located right inside the front door. Sets in the $15 to $25 range are most commonly used by the charity. These are the most popular LEGO sets:
* DUPLO * FRIENDS * STAR WARS * SUPERHEROES * LEGO CITY
Please note: Only new LEGO sets can be used due to medical challenges of some of our children. - You can go to www.hopelaughplay.org and donate directly on HOPE LAUGH PLAY's website. The average cost of a LEGO set is $20.
- You can also donate by purchasing a raffle ticket for a chance to win a LEGO Star Wars Death Star and other prizes at https://rallyup.com/lego-star-wars-raffle.
Thank you for helping us build smiles,
