ANNOUNCEMENTS

From Our Principal

Greetings!

As Thanksgiving approaches, we stop to think about those things for which we are thankful. For four years, our school has participated in the Big Thank You sponsored by The Bert Show, an Atlanta morning radio show.  The Bert Show is hoping to make sure that every solider deployed receives a hand-written letter of thanks for their service to our country. Dunwoody Elementary has 100% participation from every class producing well over 600 letters for our active troops.  What a wonderful show of thankfulness from our students!

Please remember to complete the School Climate survey conducted by the State of Georgia Department of Education. All parents are encouraged to participate in the survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating on our CCRPI report.  All responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.  The URL address or the survey is http://apps.gadoe.org/schoolclimate/parents.nsf/survey.xsp

From the PTO Co-Presidents

As we head into November, REMEMBER to FALL BACK!
The time changed on Saturday evening, so if you haven't done so already, please set all of your clocks back one hour!

The mornings are dark when you drop your children off at the bus stop or in carpool. Please do your part to ensure the safety of our children by adhering to the safety guidelines as they relate to carpool. Now that it is dark in the morning, we do not want to take any risks. Please stay off of your cell phones in the carpool line, pay close to attention to pedestrian traffic in the parking lot and at the crosswalk on Womack Road.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank all of our volunteers for working so hard over the last few months around our school. We couldn't run all the fabulous programs we offer to our children without our parent volunteers, so thank you again for all you do to make DES a wonderful place to be! Please remember to log your volunteer hours so that you are eligible for the PTO monthly raffle.

Thanks,
DES in the News!

New Faces at DES

Dunwoody Elementary welcomes two new faces to the front office!  Ms. Anne Marie Watson is our new clerk, and Ms. Jessica Brown is our new nurse.

From Our School Council

There is an overcrowding issue in the Dunwoody cluster and the Dunwoody Elementary School Council is working with the DeKalb County School District to advocate for solutions that benefit all of the schools in our community.

The local media has addressed this matter recently, specifically with regard to the rebuilding of a new elementary school that was approved with SPLOST IV funding. Our school council has shared with the district the need for transparency in the decision making process and has called for a resolution that makes more seats available for students, not the same or less. Our council will continue to advocate for our community. If you have input to share, correspondence may be sent to:
