ANNOUNCEMENTS

From Our Principal

I am pleased to let you know that Type to Learn is now online at the school for grades 3-5.  Students will receive practice from 7:30 - 8am on their assigned morning.  Remember that you also have access at home so plan to give your child daily practice as a part of their program. Also, students in grades 3-5 are scheduled to take their first writing test this month.  Write Score will grade the essays and the results will be disseminated to parents.  The first test is our baseline. Teachers will receive monthly professional learning regarding how to teach writing and students will receive daily writing practice.  We will conduct a mid-year assessment for growth in January.

Georgia Parent Survey
Our school is now categorized at the State level using a College and Career Readiness Performance Index score (CCRPI). Part of our score, School Climate, is based on the number of parents who take an online survey and how their perceptions align with actual data. We are required to have 75% participation.  Please take a moment to complete the survey by going to the parent survey link provided by the State DOE below. Thank you!

The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using a personal computer, smartphone, or a tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, school administrators should be scheduling dates and times to allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is:

Principal, Dunwoody Elementary
From the PTO Co-Presidents

We had a terrific turnout on Saturday for our annual Tour de Dunwoody. Thank you to our Tour de Dunwoody chairs, Katie Scharf and Amy Dyche, for coordinating this Family Fun Bike Ride. In addition, thank you to all of the families and staff that participated, the fabulous volunteers that helped during the event, and to all of our local Business Sponsors. Thank you to everyone that helped make Tour de Dunwoody a community success!

Thank you to our Staff Appreciation chairs, Kim Riveria and Terica Harleaux, and their amazing volunteers for setting up a great breakfast for our DES staff Tuesday morning.  They also surprised our bus drivers with a Chick-fil-A biscuit sandwich.  Thank you to all the wonderful bus drivers at DES for getting our children to and from school safely. Remember, Bus Driver Appreciation is this week, October 19-23.  Please remind your child to say thank you to their bus driver and if they would like to make a thank you card for their driver, they will really appreciate it.

As grades are beginning to plan field trips, please remember to send your child in their DES robot STEM t-shirt or a navy blue shirt on field trip days to help ensure the safety of the students. This was a request made by the teachers! If you have not yet purchased a robot shirt and would like to, please contact either Megan Cann or Jennifer Fenmore.

Thanks,
Where in the World is Mrs. Sanders?

Our principal is taking a virtual trip around the world to help our students
learn more about the world around them. Starting on Monday, October 19, we'll give the students one clue a day on WDES to see if they can figure out the week's destination. They'll have a chance to guess by putting their name, homeroom teacher, grade, and country name on a piece of paper and dropping it in the PTO Mailbox near the office.

We'll pick a winner for a small prize at the end of the week when we reveal the correct country. We'll continue this for four weeks.

How can you help?
  • Do you have family connections to a country that you would like our students to know more about?
  • Do you have any clothing from that country that Mrs. Sanders could wear on Reveal Day each Friday?
If so, please send an email to:
Got Photos?

If you have taken any photos from your child's classroom or school events and would like to submit them to possibly be included in this year's yearbook, please email them to yearbookdes@gmail.com

Please include the name of the classroom and/or the school event in the subject line.

If you have any questions please contact Rosemary or Emily.
