From the PTO Co-Presidents
School is in full swing now and all of our systems are in place and seem to be working very well. With gratitude we want to acknowledge the various committees of our PTO that have been very busy behind the scenes making sure our teachers are supported, our children get the extra attention they deserve, and you, as parents at DES, are kept informed about the school's happenings, and are happy with our children's school.
- Our Staff Appreciation Committee that provided the Welcome Back Breakfast for our staff members
 - Our Hospitality Committee that organized the Welcome Back Coffee
- Our parents that helped in the kindergarten hallway assisting children to their classroom and during dismissal;
- Our Grounds Committee that worked over the summer on beautifying the landscaping;
- Our Lunch Bunch parents who helped open ketchup packets and yogurt containers for our children and helped keep the cafeteria clean for a safe dining environment;
- Our Technology Committee for planning and overseeing our Digital Directory and Registration Day;
- Our Community Business Support team that has been working hard to find businesses in our community that want to show their support of our school.
- Our Tiger Talk team that works every week to keep parents informed about what's happening at the school.
We appreciate you!
Overall, our Curriculum Nights were a success and we want to thank each and every parent that came out to our PTO General Membership Meetings. We passed our 2015-2016 PTO Operating Budget and updated parents on Tiger Fund expenditures and upcoming events. We will have that information posted up on our PTO website soon.
We would also like to thank all of our parent volunteers who helped at Curriculum Night on Tuesday and Thursday. Special thanks to our Room Parent Coordinators, Ashley Gallagher and Fara Yarbrough for working diligently these past few weeks coordinating Room Parents. Look for Room Parents to reach out soon to offer you the chance to volunteer.
As you discovered this past Thursday, each week your student comes home with a Tiger Important Papers (TIPs) envelope. This envelope is filled with papers from your child's teacher, information from the PTO and information from other activities, clubs, etc. that are held at DES. Please make sure to look through this envelope each Thursday evening and return the envelope with your child on Friday. Grades 4 and 5, TIP folders are still on back order and we hope to get those in soon.

DES Directory 2015-16
Hello Parents of DES!
As you may or may not know, last year, we switched from a printed, to an ONLINE DIRECTORY available for your use. It includes parents' contact information along with their registered DES kids and home room teachers. It is a private ONLINE DIRECTORY only available to DES families.
On September 1st, we will upload this year's PTO registration data (parent, child, email, and phone) into the ONLINE DIRECTORY. If you would like to OPT OUT of this process, please send an email to: destechpto@gmail.com with both parent's names and child's name by the end of the day on Monday, August 31. You will have the opportunity to verify and/or correct your data after the upload is complete.

Lost and Found
Please be sure to label your child's clothing with their first and last name. Lost and found clothing that is properly labeled will be returned to your child. All unclaimed Lost and Found items will be donated on the 1st and 15th of every month. Please check the Lost and Found, located next to the media center (for clothing), and in the cafeteria (for lunch boxes and water bottles), for missing items before the donation dates.
Thank you!

Parent Needs Assessment
Welcome back! We hope you and your family had a wonderful summer break.
Now that we've returned, Dr. Childs and I are so excited for this new year of helping students achieve academic, personal, and social success! We've already started putting up some of the collegiate pennants donated by everone last school year - thanks again!
In order to best meet the needs of our students and your children, we are looking to you for feedback and collaboration. We've created a parent needs assessment in order to review and improve our program.
Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions in this survey. Your honest response to all questions will assist in the review of the School Counseling Program. All responses will be kept confidential and will be used to improve how the School Counseling Program helps our students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
Click on the following hyperlink, and it will take you to the assessment: Dunwoody ES Parent Needs Assessment.
Also, be sure to check out our counseling website to see what programs, guidance lessons, small groups, and activities we have planned this month! www.DunwoodyESCounseling.weebly.com
We look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Ms. Gilbert School Counselor PreK-2nd Grades

This is a great opportunity to get to know the staff and many of the kids before the work day even begins. The success of our school store is entirely dependent on volunteers and works best for everyone when we have two volunteers at each shift. Tiger Talk is the weekly e-newsletter of the Dunwoody Elementary School PTO. Every Sunday, we publish information that is pertinent to the students and parents of DES.
The submission deadline for each issue is 10pm on Tuesday.
All announcements must be brief and sent in writing as an email to Dunwoody.TigerTalk@gmail.com. Announcements will run for two weeks prior to the event or as applicable. If you have any questions about Tiger Talk, please contact the editors at Dunwoody.TigerTalk@gmail.com.

Our school's Facebook page and Twitter account will be used to promote upcoming school events and communications. We will also allow comments from our DES community but through daily monitoring we will remove anything that is not appropriate.
