From the PTO Co-Presidents
Thank you to our DES staff for hosting a very nice Volunteer Brunch last Friday. Volunteers ate a wonderful breakfast and enjoyed a fun social visit with fellow volunteers. Thank you DES volunteers for another wonderful year!
Thursday and Friday this week are FIELD DAYS! Thursday is for our Pre-K through 2nd grade and Friday is for our SPDE/MOID and 3rd-5th grades. Make sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather. Field Day t-shirts will be distributed to your child in class. Please make sure that your child wears sunscreen and athletic shoes as this is an outdoor event. A huge thank you to our Field Day Committee Chair, Kris Mamaghani, for helping to organize this huge event.
The date for 5th grade Honor's Day was changed to the last day of school, Friday, May 22. Honor's Day for 3rd and 4th grade remains on Tuesday, May 12. More information to come.
As the end of the school year draws near, if you are a PTO Committee Chair and you have any outstanding receipts, please submit these expenses to our Treasurer, Alison Woodrow, no later than May 15 for reimbursement. Once again, thank you to all of our parent volunteers this year!
Thank you!

Ice Cream Recall
Dunwoody Elementary will not sell ice-cream for the remainder of the school year due to product recall. Our time frame is the same as the company's suggested wait time for correcting their problem. Dunwoody Elementary has not been informed of the specific problem, but a statement from the company reads, "Blue Bell is in the process of instituting safeguards that will insure that all future product is unquestionably safe for all consumers."

Dunwoody Elementary School Grounds Day
Come Play in the Dirt
Saturday, May 9th
Join us on Saturday, May 9th from 12 to 2:30pm to play in the dirt!
We'll tackle several important projects around Dunwoody Elementary School.
The most exciting one is a new Butterfly Garden! Dunwoody Nature Center has invited DES to be part of the solution to saving the Monarch Butterfly, which is declining in numbers nationwide. DNC needs our help to install a 4 ft. by 8 ft. raised garden bed behind the library. After we build the garden bed, we will add soil and a variety of native plants (Milkweed species and nectar plants) to attract Monarch Butterflies. Click HERE to read more about the DNC Milkweed Project.
We will also pull weeds and place mulch along the Nature Trail and do some general cleanup and weeding around campus.
A light lunch will be provided.
The class with the most participants will win an extra recess!
Please sign up here:

Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A

Thank you to all our DES families who have supported our Spirit Nights this year. If you have an interest in volunteering next year, our committee will need help with the Fall family event night and cutting Spirit Night stickers every month.

Visiting Author Jennifer Sattler

Friday, May 15
6:45 to 7:45am
Please arrive for breakfast in the cafeteria (6:45 - 7:15am)
Program will begin in the media center at 7:20.
This month's topic is "Being a Dad Forever"
"All Pro Dad is a simple idea with a profound impact. It's a one-
hour monthly breakfast held before school where fathers and their
children meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria.
During this time, we will discuss a wide range of family topics,
spend time together, create fun memories, and leave equipped
with resources to strengthen your relationship with your child."
The program is fun and free! All you need to do is attend, and if you want to purchase breakfast, you may do so in the cafeteria by using your child's "mylunchmoney" account, cash or check ($1.65 adults, $1.20 children). If you do not have a "mylunchmoney" account, please register for one at
www.mylunchmoney.com before the meeting.

End of Year Celebrations
The End of the Year Celebrations for DES will be held on Friday, May 22, from 1 - 2pm. Due to limited parking and space constraints, three volunteers (in addition to the teacher) are allowed at each celebration. Room Parents will help secure volunteers for each classroom and provide a list of those expected to attend to the front office.
Certainly, all parents can help by sending in approved items needed for the celebration. Since we have many students with severe food allergies,
teachers and Room Parents will consult the parents of those children to approve all food expected to be consumed at the party.
Our students at DES have accomplished SO much this year and we want to celebrate their great efforts and success. Our End of the Year Celebrations do just that --- and it's a terrific opportunity to kick-start Summer break!

Donate a Yearbook
DES has a number of students that are unable to afford a Yearbook. With your help, we'd like to get a Yearbook into all students hands. Students unable to purchase Yearbooks have been identified and with your generosity we'd like to donate 50 Yearbooks to students. In addition, our Yearbook company representative has agreed to purchase and donate several Yearbooks.
Please consider donating a Yearbook to a student in need at DES. Your $35 gift will help a child have a keepsake of memories of his/her year at school that will last a lifetime. You may donate a Yearbook by sending in a check to "Dunwoody Elementary School PTO" with memo "Yearbook Donation." Please place your check in an envelope marked "Yearbook Donation" and place in the PTO mailbox in the school foyer by Friday, May 15. This is also a tax deductible gift. If you have any questions, please e-mail Nancy Wamsley at heynjw@comcast.net.

This has been a great year for Box Tops for Education for our school! Your efforts have yielded $1223 in cash for DES! Let's complete one last effort and turn in all Box Tops to the designated container in the entryway by Friday, May 9! For every 50 turned in, students' names will be entered into a raffle! The class bringing in the most will be eligible for extra recess!
Thanks so much for your dedicated efforts to this fundraising opportunity throughout this year!
