Music Choices for Rising 4th Graders
DES is proud to offer the following music classes for our rising 4th grade students: Band, String Orchestra and General Music. Mrs. Miller and Ms. Esartia are in the process of discussing these options with our current 3rd Grade Students. This discussion will also include a demonstration of all of the Band and String instruments that we offer. An information letter and form will go home with every student before Spring Break. You can also access a copy of the letter and form online:
http://fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us/~YVONNE_M_MILLER/
Please make sure that you complete and return the form to Mrs. Miller or Ms. Esartia by April 24, 2015. All current 3rd grade students need to turn in a form regardless of whether they will be coming back to DES or not.
4th Grade Band and String Orchestra
Please join us on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 6pm for our Spring Concert. This concert is part of the Evening of the Arts event.
DES Concert Band

Where in the World is Mrs. Sanders?
We're taking our students on another trip around the globe! The DES PTO Cultural Awareness Committee is getting ready for another round of "Where in the World is Mrs. Sanders?"
Over the course of three weeks from April 13-May 1, students will receive country clues during the morning news on WDES. Then they can
guess the country by putting their answer, name, grade and homeroom teacher on a piece of paper and dropping it in the PTO mailbox near the front office. We'll draw a winner on Thursday and announce the name on Friday, when we reveal Mrs. Sanders' destination. Keep in mind, this is only a virtual tour. Mrs. Sanders won't be going anywhere!

Lost and Found
Please check out the lost and found before April 15 and claim any items that your child may have lost. There is an abundance of hats, scarves and gloves that will ALL be donated on April 15.
Just a reminder that all unclaimed lost and found items are donated on the 1st and 15th of every month. Making sure your child's clothing is labeled will help expedite returns.
Thank You.

Program will begin in the media center at 7:20.

children meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria.
During this time, we will discuss a wide range of family topics,
spend time together, create fun memories, and leave equipped
with resources to strengthen your relationship with your child."
The program is fun and free! All you need to do is attend, and if you want to purchase breakfast, you may do so in the cafeteria by using your child's "mylunchmoney" account, cash or check ($1.65 adults, $1.20 children). If you do not have a "mylunchmoney" account, please register for one at www.mylunchmoney.com before the meeting.
To help with keeping the parking lot and carpool drop off running smoothly, please park at GA Perimeter College and walk over to school.

Georgia Milestones Testing

As we prepare for testing season we wanted to make sure you had the most updated information regarding our new assessment, The Georgia Milestones.
Please review this information as well as visit websites to view the types of questions students will be expected to answer. Additionally, have your child practice the online sample test, as all students will eventually have to take the online version. The online test format will be phased in over the next few years.
Students in grades 3-5 will be assessed from April 21- April 30, 2015. Please be sure your child is at school, on-time, during testing to ensure that they can do their very best.
