From our Principal
Greetings!
DeKalb County School District hosted a banquet last night to celebrate each school's Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year. Maria Reynolds, Teacher of the Year, and Natasha Marinkovic, Support Staff of the Year, represented Dunwoody Elementary very well. We are proud of their accomplishment.
I'm also pleased to announce that our new second grade teacher, Hartley Janney, was nominated by her college for their Exceptional New Teacher award. Mrs. Janney won the award and was granted $1,000 for her classroom. Her college will visit Dunwoody Elementary in October to present the check.
Tomorrow is a big day for Dunwoody Elementary! On Monday, September 29, the Department of Education will take a close look at the STEM program and associated curriculum. They will question groups of parents, students, and partners to determine if we can officially claim a STEM certification.
Testing for grades 1, 3, and 5 begins in October. We will administer the ITBS and CogAT to determine students eligible for the Gifted program. The data is also useful to see if students are performing to their academic potential or to see where a student may have academic weaknesses.
Please make sure your students are at school on the testing days when the testing environment is most optimal.
Have a great week!
