We are busy getting ready for the upcoming school year. The custodial crew has been working hard to clean the building. We've ordered all our supplies, registered students, and hired new employees. I believe the new year will be exciting and productive with the addition of our new staff members:

  • Rachel Risinger - Kindergarten Teacher
  • Angela Moss - PK Teacher
  • Alexandria Taylor - PK Para
  • Megan Slotin - Interrelated SPED Teacher
  • Kim Stewart - SPED Para
  • Craig Culbreth - Kindergarten Teacher
  • Erin Schaffner - Grade 1 Teacher
  • Hartley Janney - Grade 2 Teacher
  • Amy Hollander - Grade 3 Teacher
  • Kimberly Sampson - Grade 4 Teacher
  • Horatio Leftwich - Grade 5 Teacher
  • Laura Madden - EIP Teacher

We also acquired two special education units from Kingsley Elementary. The units came with teachers and paraprofessionals. We welcome Laura Miller, 2nd/3rd teacher, and Lakisha Childs, 1st teacher. We also welcome paraprofessionals:  Tiara Muhammad, Portia Font, Carol Lincoln, Geraldine Cannon, and Gloria Evans.

We look forward to seeing all new and returning students on Wednesday, August 6th.  Enjoy the remainder of your summer break!

From the PTO Co-Presidents

PTO is making a lot of changes this year! The biggest change is the roll-out of our on-line registration. Thank you to all of the families that have pre-registered and received their DES Fast Pass! Please remember that to receive your DES Fast Pass you must pay the Tiger Fund suggested donation of $125 or enroll in the 6-month installment plan. Our hope, with the implementation of the DES Fast Pass, is to make Registration Day more enjoyable for parents, students, volunteers, faculty and staff.

Items "New This Year" include:

  • To receive a Tiger Fund magnet, each family must pay the suggested donation amount of $125. Families will receive their Tiger Fund magnet on Registration Day.
  • PTO Dues must be paid before you volunteer as a Room Parent.
  • Free Dismissal Bag Tags are required for PreK-2nd graders and are available in your child's classroom.
  • PTO has an all new Digital Directory, "My School Anywhere," which will allow you to stay connected to other parents and faculty. There is also a Web App for your mobile phone. The Directory is FREE to all parents that register on a computer in their child's classroom on Registration Day or on Curriculum Night.
  • Only 2nd-5th graders will receive an Agenda distributed by teachers after the beginning of the school year. Agendas are generously donated by Kaplan Orthodontics.
Also, please check out the new and approved PTO Website at It's easier to navigate, extremely user friendly while providing more information, and it's mobile friendly! Take a look and let us know what you think on Facebook!  We hope everyone is enjoying their summer. We look forward to seeing you on Registration Day!
