Announcements

From the PTO Co-Presidents

As the 2013-2014 school year comes to an end, we must recognize our  wonderful DES teachers, staff, and volunteers for making this a terrific year! We are thankful for everyone who stepped in for events and who donated their time and talents. We are grateful to all of the Committee Chairs who worked tirelessly this year to bring us Cultural Arts, Book Fair, Tiger Talk, Technology, Tour de Dunwoody, Yearbooks, School Store/Spirit Wear, Visiting Authors, Staff Appreciation, and Field Day, just to name a few. Our Committee Chairs worked tirelessly all year to bring our students wonderful programs and events. Thank you to our current Executive Committee for all of your hard work.

Thank you to all of the families that donated to the Tiger Fund this year! With your donations we raised over $70,000! Thank you for helping to make Dunwoody Elementary an amazing school for all of our children. Some of the events and projects funded by the Tiger Fund this year were:
  • Purchase of 10 Mac Computers to complete the Mac Lab (30 computers total)
  • Purchase of 30 iPad minis and iPad cart
  • Visiting Author
  • Orton Gillingham certification for 1st grade teachers (funding approved, teachers awaiting training)
  • STEM LEGO Robotic kits
  • Grounds/Organic Garden
Over 90% of our families paid their Annual Dues! Again, thank you for your generous donation, as without your Annual Dues payment, we would not be able to fund the following:
  • Staff Gifts - Cash gifts at both Winter and Summer Break
  • Field Day T-Shirts
  • Classroom Enrichment
We are happy to provide you with more information about PTO monies, please reach out to us directly.

We had a wonderful Honors Program on Tuesday, where the many outstanding accomplishments of our wonderful students were honored. It was a great day filled with words of encouragement and motivation. Thank you to the staff for making this such a memorable day. To our rising 6th graders, we are extremely proud of each of you for working hard and moving up! Congratulations on your many accomplishments while at Dunwoody Elementary.

Last day of school is Friday! Dismissal procedures will be the same throughout the week. However, due to class parties and the number of parents who will be in the school on Friday, please be sensitive to the fact that children will not be participating in their normal class schedule. Please remember to follow the End of the Year Party guidelines as well. Only approved party parents will be allowed into classrooms on Friday afternoon.

On behalf of the PTO, we would like to wish all of our DES families a safe and happy summer! We look forward to seeing many of you in August for Registration Day. Please be on the look out for information in Tiger Talk over the summer for updates on changes to Registration Day.

Best wishes for a great last week of school and a wonderful summer break,
Amy LeVasseur & Amanda Rountree

Last Call to Retrieve Your Lost and Found Articles!

Parents, there are many wonderful sweaters, jackets and other articles of clothing in the Lost and Found!  We will be clearing out all Lost and Found items this Tuesday, May 20.  All items will be donated!  Lost and Found is located next to the media center. All lost lunch boxes and water bottles are in the lunch room. Please check to see if any of your lost items are there.
Last Day for Yearbooks!

Yearbooks were distributed in the homeroom classrooms last Monday to those students who pre-ordered. If you did NOT pre-order a yearbook for your child, they will be on sale from until MONDAY, May 19th, 7-7:45am in the front hallway of the school.

They are $35 each (cash or check). We have a limited supply of extra yearbooks, so don't miss out on getting one for your child!
Reminder - Turn in PTO Receipts

Dear Teachers and PTO Committee Chairs,

As we wind down the school year, please turn in all PTO receipts to the DES PTO Treasurer, April Toms, as soon as possible for reimbursement.

Upcoming Events

End of Year Celebrations

All End of the Year celebrations will be held on the last day of school, Friday, May 23rd from 1:15-2pm. Room Parents should have a list of parents who have volunteered to work in the classroom on those days.

The front office will have the list of volunteers and only those parents who are on the volunteer list will be permitted to enter the building. Please remember that there is additional parking at Georgia Perimeter College and that parking will be at a premium. Please keep in mind that there is no parking in the bus lane and you may not double park and block in another vehicle. There will be carts placed outside the front doors if you wish to drop off any items for class parties prior to parking.

If you have a child in 5th grade, make sure to ask them about all the fun and exciting activities we have planned for them!  They will enjoy their own end of the year celebration and some other really special perks!

Congratulations to all of our 5th grade students, we know you are heading off to do great things!

School Fundraising Made Easy!

The TRUEBLUE WAY with Georgia Natural Gas®

Dunwoody Elementary is participating in the Georgia Natural Gas TrueBlue Schools Program. It's an easy way to for our school to earn donations directly from Georgia Natural Gas every time you pay your natural gas bill.

Georgia Natural Gas (GNG) has already donated $1.5 million to Georgia schools, and schools just like ours have raised more than $5,000 in a matter of months! We can do this too, but we need your help.

Similar to other buyer-rewards programs, the first step is becoming a Georgia Natural Gas customer.  Here's how you can sign up:

  • Visit TrueBlueSchools.com or call1-866.ONLYGNG to sign up for Georgia Natural Gas. Use Promo Code: TrueBlue

TrueBlue Schools' participants are eligible to receive an up to $0.15 per therm discount off their monthly gas bill by choosing Georgia Natural Gas.

  • Receive your new GNG account number by email within 24 hours, or immediately over the phone.
  • Then visit TrueBlueSchools.com and select DES to receive donations - $5 every time you pay your bill.

If you're already a loyal Georgia Natural Gas customer, visit TrueBlueSchools.com to designate Our School. GNG will donate $5 each month you pay your gas bill. That's $60 a year to our school!

With your support of this program we can reach our fundraising goals! Remember, the more customers who participate in the TrueBlue Schools Program and select DES, the greater our school's donation!

Box Top
