Announcements

From Our Principal

Greetings!

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable break from school! Our school campus is in full bloom with the introduction of our warmer weather, and it's hard to believe that summer is just around the corner.

Our students in grades 3-5 are actively preparing to take the CRCT beginning April 22. The CRCT is a promotion test for students in Grade 3 in the area of Reading. For students in Grade 5, it's a promotion test in the areas of both Reading and Math. In order to meet their potential, students should be provided with the most optimal circumstances for test taking which begins at home. Parents, please make sure that your children get plenty of rest by adhering to a strict bed time. Provide students with a healthy breakfast with protein, and make sure to arrive to school on time which is approximately 7:30 - 7:40am. Students must be settled and ready ready to start testing at 8 AM!  We want all our students to perform well!

We also seek the cooperation of all parents and visitors by making sure you are not on the hallways or classrooms after 7:40am each morning of testing. We appreciate your help!

From the PTO Co-Presidents

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time and talents this year to help make DES a wonderful school! In appreciation, please join us on May 1st, from 9:00-10:30, for the  Annual PTO Volunteer Brunch. Please remember to log your hours on the PTO website because we want to reward you for your time. For every ten hours logged, you will receive one raffle entry.  The raffle will be held during the brunch, but you do not have to be present to win. We understand that schedules are busy this time of year, but we hope you can take this time to join us in celebrating another fabulous year at Dunwoody Elementary School!

We are actively seeking committee chairs for the 2014-15 school year. There are so many ways to be involved! Are you interested on working on our hiking trail, being more involved with local businesses, planning our cultural arts events, or coordinating hospitality? These are just a few of our available committees! Please contact us to indicate your interest in serving or leading one of our many committees.

The PTO Executive Committee Slate will be installed during our next general membership meeting on Thursday, April 24th at 6pm. Please join us in welcoming the 2014-2015 Executive Committee. The Evening of the Arts is the same night from 5-7pm. We'd love to see you there!

This week students in 3rd-5th grades will take the CRCT. The test is administered on TuesdayWednesday, and Thursday this week and Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Please make sure your child receives a good night sleep and eats a hearty breakfast to ensure they're ready for the tests.

Last week we mistakenly wrote that the Spring Musical was "Lion King." It is actually "The Jungle Book." Sorry for this oversight.

Have a great week,

School Council Parent Elections

We have 3 two year terms open on School Council and our community will be asked to vote for up to three candidates amongst the four individuals below. Voting is Thursday, April 24th from 7:00am to 7:00pm.  Each parent/guardian with a child at DES is eligible to vote.

Additionally, there are two candidates for the special election to fill the one-year term of a departing parent representative. This election will be conducted simultaneously with the regular election this Thursday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Click HERE to see the full list of candidates and their bios.

DES 2014 Survey

Every year the School Council sends out a survey to get your feedback on the school. This is an important tool for teachers, administrators, and PTO. Please take a few minutes to provide your experience on the school. All answers are confidential and will be provided to administration and PTO from the survey software. Individual concerns that merit a conference should be brought directly to your student's teacher.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know what you think!

The survey will be open until May 2nd.

The Spring deadline for Box Tops For Education is fast approaching! Please have all collected Box Tops turned in by Friday, May 9th!

For every 50 Box Tops that are turned in, the student's name will be entered into a drawing for prizes! The class that turns in the most Box Tops will be eligible to receive popsicles on the playground! Remember to put your collected Box Tops in the designated box, in the foyer of the school, in a Ziploc bag labeled with your student's name, grade, and homeroom teacher. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents for DES, and this program has already raised over $1200 for DES this year!! Keep collecting this summer!

Encourage your neighbors, friends, and extended family to collect for you as well as this effort will resume with the start of the 2014-2015 school year! Thanks so much for your participation, and please let me know if you have any questions!
