From Our Principal
Greetings!
The week is predicted to be beautiful with warm weather - finally! As your children begin to dress in lighter-weight clothing, please make sure they are school appropriate. Flip flops are not "safe" school shoes, and inhibit a child's ability to participate fully in PE. Shorts and dresses should be mid-thigh length or longer, and shoulders should be covered.
Also keep in mind that warm weather brings an increased number of bees and ants. Please review procedures with your child and their teacher if your child has an allergy to bug bites/stings. Remind the teacher of the plan for your child's Epi Pen. While we have allergy response plans on file, it is always good to provide care givers with reviews/reminders.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful Spring Break with time to enjoy friends and family. When school resumes on April 14, we will be getting our students in grades 3-5 geared-up for the CRCT. Remember that the testing dates have been pushed later due to the inclement weather days. The CRCT will be administered for two weeks beginning the week of April 21.
Have a great holiday!

From the PTO Co-Presidents
We have a busy week leading up to Spring Break!
Tuesday is Chick-fil-A Spirit Night, please join us from 5-8pm.
Wednesday is Walk to School Day so lace up those shoes and join us outside for a brisk morning walk.
Thursday, April 3rd is Kindergarten Round-up. This event is for kindergarten students who are zoned for DES next year. We will offer children and parents a sneak peek at our school and all we have to offer. Please remind your friends and neighbors that have kindergarteners coming to DES next year about this wonderful event.
We will not have a Tiger Talk issue on April 6th due to Spring Break. We will be back on April 13th, just in time to remind you about CRCT testing April 15-18.
Have a great week and enjoy your Spring Break!

Chick-fil-A Spirit Night
Come one, come all to Chick-fil-A Spirit Night on Tuesday, April 1, from 5pm-8pm at Chick-fil-A Perimeter Pointe.
DES gets credit for all sales from our school community, dine-in or drive-through, or future orders that are used within 30 days, anytime between 5pm and 8pm, so please be sure to mention "DES" at the time of purchase.
Ice cream will be served in the dining hall by staff members of Dunwoody Elementary. When you stop by the Ice Dream table, be sure to tell the servers your teacher's name. The class with the most participation will receive a free Chick-fil-A breakfast!

Walk to School
Walk To School is Wednesday, April 2!
Come join the fun and walk or bike to school Wednesday. Prizes are handed out to those that Walk! You may either walk/bike your own route to school or use one of the following places to park your car and walk:
Kingswood United Methodist Church 5015 Tilly Mill Road
Vermack Swim & Tennis Club
4756 Vermack Road
Both of these routes will take approximately 20 minutes. Please note: There will be no volunteer walking leaders from either location.
If you are unable to use one of our meeting points or make the walk from your house, please park in the GPC parking lot next door to the school and walk into the school grounds that way. Please do not park on surrounding residential streets. This creates a safety hazard and restricts access for the residents living on these streets and for emergency vehicles. Dunwoody Police will be monitoring this.
There will be extra pedestrians on the sidewalk in the morning. Remember pedestrians always have the right of way.
We will tally walkers in the classrooms. The classroom with the most walkers will receive the Gold Sneaker Award.
The event will be held rain or shine!
Visit the School Store, open 7:15-7:40am. DES merchandise available to purchase!
Which class will win the Gold Sneaker this time??!!!

School Store Volunteers Needed
We continue to need volunteers to work at the School Store which is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:10-7:40am. The School Store is a great money-maker for DES and volunteering there is quick and fun! Please click on the Sign-Up Genius link below.
If you've never worked at the School Store, we will be certain there is a "veteran volunteer" who is there to train you on your first day.
Please sign-up and encourage others to do so as well. Thank you!
