School Calendar Changes

At the March 3 meeting, the DeKalb County School District Board of Education adopted an extended school calendar because of instructional days lost to winter weather.  DeKalb County lost eight instructional days due to snow, sleet, and ice storms in January and February 2014.  The revised DeKalb County Calendar is now posted on the DeKalb Schools Website.   Click Here to see the press release.

**Please note:  The new CRCT dates are April 22nd - May 1st.

The following is a summary of the schedule changes:

* Add five instruction days prior to the CRCT for students in grades 3-8 by moving the testing dates from April 15-24 to April 22-May 1.

* Add three instructional and remediation days to the end of the school
year - May 21-23.

* Move the CRCT re-test window to May 20-22 to recoup remediation days prior to the CRCT re-assessment.

Please arrive for breakfast in the cafeteria (6:45 - 7:15am)

Program will begin in the media center at 7:20.

This month's topic is "TBD"

All Pro Dad Dad's Day is a simple idea with a profound impact. It's a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria. During this time, we will discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and leave equipped with resources to strengthen your relationship with your child.

The program is fun and free! All you need to do is attend, and if you want to purchase breakfast, you may do so in the cafeteria by using your child's "mylunchmoney" account, cash or check ($1.65 adults, $1.20 children). If you do not have a "mylunchmoney" account, please register for one at www.mylunchmoney.com before the meeting.

To help with keeping the parking lot and carpool drop off running smoothly, please park at GA Perimeter College and walk over to school.

Please visit our chapter website for dates and more information.

Orchestra Ensemble Receives Superior Marks

On Tuesday, March 4th and Thursday, March 6th, 2014 the DES 4th Grade String Ensemble and the advanced Tremolo String Ensemble, led by Ms. Natia Esartia, participated in the DeKalb County District IV Orchestra Festival hosted by Lakeside High School. Our 4th Grade String Ensemble received two Superior marks and one Excellent mark (over all Superior rating), and our Tremolo String Ensemble received 3 Superior marks.

District IV DeKalb County Orchestra Festival is a yearly event that invites three adjudicators to rate performances by school orchestras representing Dekalb county, and it is usually attended mostly by high school and middle school orchestras.  The three adjudicators rate the performances I-V, I being the Superior mark.

It is worth noting that Dunwoody Elementary and Kittredge Magnet School are the only two elementary schools attending the event because they are two of the few elementary schools that continue to offer the String Orchestra program to their students.

We are very proud of our students' dedication and hard work!
Dunwoody Singers Score Superior at Festival!

A huge congratulations to our Dunwoody Singers for scoring overall Superior at the District IV GMEA Chorus Festival earlier in the week.
