Announcements

From the PTO Co-Presidents

Due to the inclement weather last week, we had to cancel International Passport week and the "Everybody Cooks Rice" Potluck. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, neither of these events will be rescheduled this year. Thank you very much to our Cultural Arts Chairs, Katie Moussouri and Terri Polk, for all of their preparation in organizing these great events.

There was a communication error last week regarding February's Chick-fil-A Spirit Night. Some students accidentally received Spirit Night stickers on February 18th. However, there was no official Spirit Night last Tuesday. We appreciate all of those families that supported DES by eating that night.  A big thank you to Chick-fil-A as well, since they will still allow those meals to count as a Spirit Night for us. Chick-fil-A also apologizes for any service issues that occurred due to being understaffed and unprepared for the high volume of patrons last Tuesday.

A DES PTO form letter was sent home to all students two weeks ago with regard to your financial contributions to the school. Please review this letter to ensure that contact information as well as amounts paid are correct. If you have not donated to the Tiger Fund yet we would greatly appreciate your support. This is also a convenient time to pay Annual Dues or purchase a Yearbook. At your convenience please place corrected forms in the PTO mailbox located in the foyer.

Have a wonderful week.

Look At What We Are Doing in Music Class!

Our Kindergarten and 1st Grade students are learning all about "Carnival of the Animals" by Saint-Saens and "Peter and the Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev.   We have most of the puppets but are still looking for swans, turtles (or tortoise), kangaroos, lions and chickens. Also we would LOVE to have our very own Puppet Theatre!

Mrs. Miller is imaginative but.......judge for yourself!

Did you know that you can use an old piece of furniture and transform it into something like this?

Do you have anything lying around your house that you would like to donate?

Can you imagine it transformed into a fabulous Puppet Theatre for our children to use year after year? Are you amongst our many, many fabulously talented parents who would like to take on this awesome task?

If so, please contact Mrs. Miller for more details: yvonne_m_miller@fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us

The music department is ALWAYS on the lookout for any old costume donations. If you have old costumes, such as princesses, princes, superheros, animals, cowboys/girls, hats, or masks, and would like to donate it, please contact Mrs. Miller.

Grace Moussouri (left) with DES Visual Arts Teacher, Laura Fleury-Bell

Dunwoody Elementary School is proud to announce that Grace Moussouri, a 5th grader at DES, is a winner in the Georgia Aquarium Regional Coastal America Ocean Art Contest for grades 3-5.

Her art has been forwarded to the National Coastal America Art Contest. Judging for the National Contest will take place between late March and early April, with winners being notified in late April.

Artwork was judged on its strong visual impact, artistic merit, and how clearly it communicated one or more of the Essential Principles of Ocean Sciences.

By illustrating these principles, Grace helped to share the vision of the United States National Ocean Policy, "An America whose stewardship ensures that the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes are healthy and resilient, safe and productive, and understood and treasured so as to promote the well-being, prosperity, and security of present and future generations."
