From our Principal

I hope that everyone is enjoying a mild, wet summer!  The trees and bushes around the school are lush and green with all the extra rain water. In just a few weeks, we will start a new school year with only a few changes. Consistency is so nice for Dunwoody Elementary after four years of change!

We ended the school year on a good note!  Our test scores were fabulous and the College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) for Dunwoody Elementary is consistent with our neighboring schools and schools with a similar population.  I appreciate those who took time to complete the community survey.  Those results will be analyzed to determine goals for the upcoming year.  These goals will be shared at Curriculum Night in August.

We will also continue to pursue the implementation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).  We have received a wealth of materials and resources from our district, and our teachers will participate in continued professional development during the course of the year.  The desired outcome will be students who are interested and prepared for careers in the related fields of science, technology, engineering and math.  Additionally, we want to raise the rigor of instruction.

We will also begin the year with new faces!  We are sad to see our friends and colleagues go, but they are off to bigger and better things. Avis Holbrook received a promotion and will be coaching teachers at Intown Academy in APS.  Erin Dyer moved to south Georgia following her husband's career.  Katie Grubbs followed her husband to Seattle, Washington, and Kelly Dye has accepted a job in a private school.  We also lost staff members due to retirement - Rose Bridgeman, Anita Brewer, and Judy Skinner.  I will post the 2013-2014 staff roster as positions are finalized.  Remember that you will also be able to meet your child's teacher during registration on August 7.

Enjoy the remainder of  your summer!
