From the PTO Co-Presidents
Parents, we would like to take a moment to thank all of you for recognizing our wonderful teachers and staff this week. We had a wonderfully successful Staff Appreciation Week, and we could not have done it without our fabulous Committee Chairs, Jenny Troha and Rosemary Watts! Thank you to all the parents who volunteered in classrooms, sent in baked goods, flowers, and cards to make this week extra special. We LOVE our Teachers and Staff here at DES and we are so grateful for all they do everyday!!!! It's hard to believe that school is almost over! We have a very busy week ahead of us, so make sure you get prepared for all the special events we have in store for our wonderful students this week and next! Tuesday night is our last Chick-fil-A Spirit Night of the school year. Come out and enjoy a dinner with your family and support DES too! Please remember to mention DES when you order - a portion of the profits for the evening goes directly back to the school. HONORS DAY: Wednesday, May 15th is our Honors program beginning at 8:30am. Please make sure to take advantage of parking at Perimeter College for this event, since parking is always a premium on school grounds. FIELD DAY: Thursday and Friday are FIELD DAYS!!!! Thursday is for our Pre-K through 2nd grade students and Friday is for our upper grades 3rd-5th. Make sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather. If you purchased a Field Day t-shirt for your child, those will be distributed in class. Please make sure that your child wears sunscreen and athletic shoes for their Field Day as well. VARIETY SHOW: Our DES Variety Show will be Thursday evening beginning at 6:00pm. Come out and see the many talents of our wonderful students! Last but not least, we always have wonderful end of the year celebrations, but we also need to be mindful of parking and of front office procedures for early check out. Please read the Principal comments in the following article for Field Day and End-of-year celebration reminders.
Happy Mothers' Day, and have a wonderful week!

Field Day and End-of-Year Celebration Reminders
Field Day activities are scheduled May 16 (PK-2) and May 17 (3-5), from 8am to 2pm. We look forward to a fun-filled day for staff, students and parents. While having fun is an important part of the day, ensuring that all participants are in a safe and secure environment is also important. Please review the following safety information about Field Day.
-
Students must wear proper shoes and attire to participate. After walking the grounds, potentially hazardous environmental and landscaping concerns were noted-ants, rocks, sticks, etc. Students must wear closed toe and closed heel shoes. (No sandals, Crocs, slides, flip flops, etc)
-
Students must remain with the assigned teacher or school personnel at all times. There will be parents who volunteer on these days, but please inform the assigned school personnel of any actions before leaving an area with a child. While in school, the child must first report to the teacher.
-
Early dismissal procedures: Parents must sign their child[ren] out when leaving the school. Signing out may occur in the classroom with the teacher, where a sticker will be placed on the child[ren] to make it easier for administrators to identify those students who have been signed out. If the child is not signed out by the teacher, the parents must come to the front lobby, show their ID and sign out the student. If a friend is taking the child of another parent, the child must present the classroom teacher with a note from the custodial parent indicating this request. (The note should include name of friend, parent's contact information and friend's contact number. Inform your friend that ID will be required.) No child is to leave the school grounds without approval from a school administrator or teacher.
Finally, end-of-year classroom celebrations will be held the last day of school - May 23, beginning at Noon for grade 5 and 1pm for grades K-4. Due to space constraints, adults attending the parties will be limited to the five adults identified by the homeroom teacher. Those names will be listed at the front office for badges that will be issued beginning at 12:45pm. All celebrations will end at 2pm to prepare for dismissal. Park in designated areas, only. Additional parking is available at GA Perimeter College. |

Teacher Appreciation Week Recap
We host fun events throughout the year for our great DES teachers, but this week was truly all about them as we took them on a "tropical trip"! Monday they were treated to a delicious breakfast, while Tuesday brought an enormous buffet with more than 20 homemade desserts during lunch. Our students showered their beloved teachers with cards and treats on Wednesday morning, and the teacher's topped off their day with smoothies in the afternoon. Everyone enjoyed a delicious luau lunch Thursday, and Friday they each received a plush beach towel to use this summer as they relax. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped this week, and thank you for paying your class dues and donating to the Tiger Fund to make this all possible!
