From the PTO Co-Presidents
Thank you to those of you who came out to our brief PTO meeting on Thursday. In addition to the general PTO business (approval of minutes from January 31's meeting and a review of the PTO's finances to date), the Nominating Committee announced the slate for our 2013-2014 Executive Committee. The nominees are as follows: PTO Co-President: Amanda Rountree VP of Ways and Means: Amy Hatmaker VP of Communications: Jan Jay VP of Programs: Jennifer Fenmore Secretary: Rosemary Gorham Financial Secretary: Alison Woodrow After our PTO meeting we had a wonderful family dinner and movie night! Thank you to all the families who came out and enjoyed a night with family and friends. We also had a very successful Scholastic Book Fair last week. A huge thanks to all of you who participated and those who purchased books from teacher wish lists as well!!! We also want to acknowledge the many volunteers and chairs who spent their valuable free time helping our parents, teachers and students shop and find the perfect reading materials. You are all wonderful and we thank you! The principal's coffee this week was very informative and we had a good turnout to hear about STEM certification and the processes that will lead to our school becoming a STEM certified school. It will take some time to put everything in place, but we are already beginning the process and gearing up to begin purchasing items to get us going. The 5th grade enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the Little White House on Friday. Rich with history, this was a terrific learning trip for our students. Coming up this Friday, March 29, we have a theme day - wear a souvenir shirt from a vacation, so go through those t-shirts and pick your favorite! Have a great week,
Amy LeVasseur & Shari Wassell PTO Co-Presidents |

Chairs 4 Charity
Before you clear out your house for spring cleaning, consider donating any small tables or chairs to the art room! Mrs. Fleury-Bell & her photography club are looking for gently used chairs and small tables to paint for the 4th annual Chairs 4 Charity. The Chairs 4 Charity booth is sponsored by the Dunwoody Rotary Club. The chairs will be auctioned off at the Dunwoody Arts Festival, in the heart of Dunwoody on May 11th & 12th, 2013. Students in the photography club will paint these chairs and 100% of the proceeds are donated back to the art room at DES. Wood, plastic and metal chairs are preferred, but we're artists so we can be creative with anything! Thank you! |
Book Drive
The Media Center and the Student Council are hosting a book drive at DES!
Help us gather gently used books for schools whose libraries were affected by Hurricane Sandy. The book drive will run March 11 - April 5. Donation boxes will be located in the lunch room, library, and near the main entrance. Thank you in advance for your donations! |
Parade of Presidents
Mrs. Elaine Mach, 2nd grade teacher at Dunwoody Elementary, hosted a Parade of Presidents in which students did a presentation on a president and dressed in character. Family members were invited and the cafeteria was packed full. It was a fun-filled event and the students enjoyed being able to share what they learned with an audience.

Dunwoody has an enhanced 9-1-1 service called Smart911 available for free to all residents. The Chattahoochee River 9-1-1 Authority is encouraging all citizens to create a Safety Profile at www.smart911.com, and provide 9-1-1 with the information they need to assist you in the event of an emergency. A profile can include as much or as little information as you want, such as:
-
Members of your family and any medical conditions, medications or allergies -
Mobile phone numbers tied to home or work addresses -
Your emergency contacts, vehicle information and even pets
Smart911 is 100% private and secure. The only time a profile is seen is when you call 9-1-1. The profile immediately displays to call takers, which allows first responders to assist you faster and more effectively. Create you profile today at www.smart911.com. More details can be found on the DES PTO Website. |
