Announcements

From the PTO Co-Presidents

Thank you to all of our DES families who joined us for Shane's Spirit Night on Thursday. Remember, for every spirit event that we have, a portion of the profits go directly back to our school. Thank you again to our dedicated Community Business Support team of Yvette Megathlin and Amber Pride for continuing to allow us opportunities to raise money for our school and build relationships in our community!

ATTENTION ALL THING 1'S AND THING 2'S:

Friday, March 1st is our READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY. This is a fun-filled day where your children can dress up as their favorite Dr. Seuss character or other favorite book character and participate in our school wide character parade. Encourage your child's creativity and get those costumes ready for a great day of learning and fun! The parade will be outside (weather permitting) and parents are welcome to attend. There will not be an opportunity this year to take photographs of your children during the parade, so make sure to take photographs at home before leaving for school.

Have a wonderful week.

Amy LeVasseur & Shari Wassell
PTO Co-Presidents

Upcoming Events

DES STEM Night

Thursday, February 28, 2013, 6pm-8pm

Parents and children are invited to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at the annual Dunwoody Elementary School STEM night. Whether it's controlling computers with a glance, space exploration, or searching for the cure for cancer, the creativity of science and technology will continue to spur the growth of the economy and catalyze the overall improvement of human life.

During this event, parents can learn more about programs designed to expose children to STEM fields and facilitate advanced preparation in these disciplines. Additionally, children will have the opportunity to participate in the many fun and fascinating science experiments and demonstrations that will be available. Let's work together to cultivate the curiosity of our children!

Dunwoody's Got Talent!

Variety Show - May 16, 2013

Do you like to Sing? Play an instrument? Dance? Juggle? Or are you talented in some other way? If so, we want you to audition for our wonderful Variety Show (open to 4/5 grade students only). Please make sure you turn in your completed form before our deadline date of March 1, 2013. Forms went home to all 4th & 5th grade students in January. If you need another form, you can download one from Mrs. Miller's website or pick one up at the information carousel as you enter the school.

DES Grounds Day
Saturday, March 2, 8am-Noon

Please come out and help us spruce up the garden beds, work on the organic gardens, spread mulch and do general clean up to get the campus ready for spring. You'll want to bring your gardening gloves and tools if possible. Kids are welcome and this volunteering will count toward your volunteer hours so remember to log them in. Lunch will be provided by Shane's Rib Shack.
Georgia Walk to School Day

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6

Dunwoody Elementary will be participating in Georgia Walk to School Day. Put on your walking shoes and walk to school (or ride your bike)! You may either walk/bike your own route to school or join one of our "walking school buses" to walk to school as a group. Walking school buses will leave from the following locations:

Kingswood United Methodist Church
5015 Tilly Mill Road
Please meet at 7:05 a.m.
We will start walking at 7:15 a.m.

Vermack Swim & Tennis Club
4756 Vermack Road
Please meet at 7:05 a.m.
We will start walking at 7:10 a.m.

All of these walks take approximately 20 minutes. We will have walking leaders at each point. Please follow their instructions at all times.

Remember to respect our neighbors in the surrounding streets and avoid parking on the streets and blocking access to their homes. Please take advantage of one of our walking school buses or walk from your house. Dunwoody Police will be monitoring this the morning of the walk.

When you arrive to school, each child who walks will receive a small reward. Walkers will be tallied in the classrooms. The class with the most walkers will receive the Gold Sneaker Award!!

DES will also be participating in a friendly "competition" with the other elementary schools in the area (Chesnut, Vanderlyn, Kingsley and Austin). The principals from the schools with the lowest percentage of walkers will all have to wear the spirit t-shirt of the school who has the highest percentage of walkers!! We want all of the other principals to wear a DES t-shirt. So come out and walk and lets show our DES pride!!

We need lots of parent support to make this day a HUGE success. Please consider volunteering on March 6. Volunteers are needed to help hand out incentives. It only takes 45 minutes of your time and your child(ren) can help hand out incentives to their friends! Every volunteer that helps out always says what fun they have on the morning!

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer on the day please contact Rosemary Gorham at rosemary_gorham@hotmail.com.
