From the PTO Co-Presidents
Attention all cooks!!!! Tuesday February 12th is Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night, so take the night off from the kitchen and enjoy dinner out with your family and support our fabulous school at the same time. Spirit Night is from 5:00pm-8:00pm and a portion of the profits for the night go right back to DES. Remember to mention Dunwoody Elementary School when you order from the counter or drive thru!
Next week is Valentine's Day and we will have a school-wide Valentine's Exchange on Thursday, February 14th. You should have received a class list in your child's TIP folder. On Friday, we will have the All Pro Dad Breakfast and Program from 6:45am-7:45am and we will also have a Cultural Arts program celebrating Black History Month. The Cultural Arts program is offered during our instructional day and gives our students a chance to experience a wonderful program outside of the classroom. Thank you again to all of the parents who contributed to the Tiger Fund this year. Our Cultural Arts program is one of many programs that would not be possible without your generous donations. Have a great week,
Amy LeVasseur & Shari Wassell PTO Co-Presidents

DES Dad's, did you miss the All Pro Dad Breakfast
last month?
If you answered yes, don't worry. Come to this month's meeting!
Friday, February 15 - 6:45 to 7:45am.
Please arrive for breakfast in the cafeteria (6:45 - 7:15am)
Program will begin in the media center at 7:20.
This month's topic is "Making Things Better"
All Pro Dad Dad's Day is a simple idea with a profound impact. It's a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria. During this time, we will discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and leave equipped with resources to strengthen your relationship with your child.
The program is fun and free! All you need to do is attend, and if you want to purchase breakfast, you may do so in the cafeteria by using your child's "mylunchmoney" account, cash or check ($1.50 adults, $1.15 children). If you do not have a "mylunchmoney" account, please register for one at www.mylunchmoney.com before the meeting.
To help with keeping the parking lot and carpool drop off running smoothly, please park at GA Perimeter College and walk over to school.
Please visit our chapter website for dates and more information.

Cultural Celebration
At the end of the week, your kids will come home talking about what a GREAT Cultural Experience they had in celebration of Black History Month! That's because on February 15, 2013, Manga African Dance Ensemble will perform 3 assemblies at DES focused on engaging the children in the pulsating sounds of Sunu (ceremonial music played by the Malinke people of Guinea and Mali during traditional festivals). Manga traces the evolution of American dance forms and students discover how Africans absorbed elements of other cultures along the way and transformed them into new dance styles that have left an indelible mark on American culture. |
Class Photos
IT'S PICTURE TIME AGAIN!!! On Thursday morning, February 21st, Sure Shot Photography will be taking our class photos. If you have any questions about the class photos OR the individual photos that were taken earlier, please feel free to contact Christy Archibald at carchibald@comast.net. |

DES Jump Rope for Heart
Dunwoody Elementary School students will JUMP FOR THEIR HEARTS AND HELP SAVE LIVES. Students at elementary schools are jumping at the chance to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers.
Starting on Thursday, January 24th - Friday, February 22nd DES will try to raise money for the American Heart Association, which funds lifesaving heart and stroke research.
Jump Rope for Heart teaches students how physical fitness benefits the heart and shows them that volunteering can be a fun and positive experience for the whole community. The need to educate children about the importance of physical activity couldn't be more necessary! Money is NOT required in order to participate in the program; however, any money given will help and is appreciated. Please note: we ask that children not go door-to-door or ask strangers for donations. You can make donations online at www.heart.org. Our school goal is $20,000.00, so please help in any way.
Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Please help our students help others by making a donation. If you would like to help, call 1-800-AHA-USA1 (1-800-242-8721). You can also visit them online at www.heart.org/jump.
Thank you for helping people in our community fight America's #1 and #3 killers - heart disease and stroke!
Coach K and Mrs. Reynolds
What: Jump Rope for Heart Celebration When: TBA 3:00 - 4:00 pm Where: DES GYM
Each student that raises $200 or more will receive an invitation to the Jump Rope for Heart Celebration. These students are allowed to "Bring a Buddy!" (Student currently enrolled at DES only.) The students will enjoy pizza, juice, music and receive their prizes from the American Heart Association.
