Shane's Rib Shack Spirit Night
We hope your tummies savored the taste of turkey and fabulous side dishes over the last week with family and friends. Now, be ready for some down-home BBQ at Shane's Rib Shack at Perimeter! Enjoy pork, chicken, ribs and scrumptious salads and sides while you dine-in with your DES family THIS Thursday, November 29, between 4pm and 9pm. There will be several drawings for Free Shane's Bucks, so you can "Treat the Family to Dinner" on your next visit. Meals are available for take-out, and please be sure to mention "DES" at the time of purchase. Shane's will be giving 10% of sales back to DES. Shane's has also been a sponsor of lunches for Grounds Day volunteers. Thank you Shane's Rib Shack of Perimeter! |
Friday is Crazy Socks Day!
Remember to have your child wear their funniest, craziest, wackiest socks this Friday for our monthly theme day. |

Dunwoody Police Toy Drive
DES is 10th! Because of your canned food donations for the Atlanta Falcons Food Drive, Dunwoody Elementary ranked 10th of all participants based on total weight of donations contributed. Thank you to those families that sent in cans and to the Community Care committee and Mrs. Reynolds for helping coordinate this drive.
To show our support for the Dunwoody community, DES will send a financial donation to the Dunwoody Police for their annual toy drive. If your family would like to contribute toys to the police department's drive, please go to the link below for more details. As always, we appreciate all the contributions our DES families make to the drives sponsored by our school and community.

Mandatory Volunteer Training Online
Thanks to all who were able to complete the mandatory Reporter/Child Abuse Training for Volunteers at the school. We know it's hard to find the time to come to the school, so you can now complete the training online. It should only take you approximately 5-7 minutes. You do not need to submit an online completion form when you finish viewing the training video.

Community Helpers Day at DES
As a culminating activity to a unit on Community Helpers, the Kindergarten students were treated to a morning of sirens, red lights, toothbrushes and dental floss by some of our neighboring community helpers. Dr. Christine Scott's Pediatric Dentistry, DeKalb County Fire Department (Station 18) and Dunwoody Police Department visited DES to speak to the students about safety and good health. The students had the opportunity to honk horns, sit in the back of a police car, and practice proper brushing techniques. Other visitors included the MARTA Police Bomb Squad and K-9 Unit, United States Marines and the Department of Transportation HERO and Rescue Unit. "Gizmo" the bomb robot shook hands with students and "Buc" the police dog demonstrated good listening skills by following commands given by his owner.
The goal of Community Helpers Day is to provide the students with a positive hands on opportunity to meet invaluable members of the community that can be of assistance if necessary.
I would like to thank everyone that participated for making this a successful, educational, FUN and MEMORABLE event. I look forward to working with all of them in the future.
Ms. Young
