Announcements

From the PTO Co-Presidents

We hope all of your children enjoyed their Halloween trick or treating and then learned a lot at the Fall Fun Days. These two days of activity stations for the entire school focused on science projects, experiments and observations. The chairs, Dana Coulter and Jennifer Fenmore, did a great job organizing these two days and executing the plans with the help of the many parent volunteers and staff members. Thank you Fall Day chairs and committee volunteers for helping educate our children about science. Parents - Remember to log your hours.

This week we will look for you at Sandy Springs Funhouse for our Election Day spirit day. Come anytime between 10 am and 8 pm and see your fellow DES friends and families. We may even have a few teachers there playing laser tag. Anyone is welcome to come to this event. Please say DES when you pay so that we can get credit for your attendance. The PTO will receive 10% of all sales.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the sidewalk for our monthly Walk to School day on Wednesday and then plan to come back to DES for the DCPC meeting beginning at 8:45am. We'll provide light refreshments before the start of the program at 9:15am (see more details below in this issue of TT).

We also hope to see all of our parents at the school on Saturday, November 10, 8am-Noon, for our Grounds Day. We plan to spruce up the beds in the parking lot and work on the organic gardens preparing all for the winter. We'll have a special treat for those that come out and help so mark your calendar and come with garden gloves and tools.

See you at the school,

Shari Wassell and Amy LeVasseur

Morning Carpool

Kind reminder that children need to be IN CLASS at 7:45am, therefore the last time to drop off your child should be 7:40, so they have time to arrive in their classrooms before school starts. Also, try to have the kids ready to exit the car when in carpool.  Carpool Volunteers are trying to get the line to run as fast as possible so you don't have to wait long and any assistance you can provide is helpful and appreciated.

Thank you very much for your support!!!

 Lost and Found

As the days get cooler the lost and found begins to fill up! Missing something? Check the lost and found! The lost and fo und will be cleaned out and all items will be donated on Thursday November 15th!

WalktoSchoolWalk to School

Our next Walk to School Day will be on Wednesday, November the 7th. Put on your walking shoes and walk to school (or ride your bike)!

You may either walk/bike your own route to school or use one of the following places to park your car and walk:

Kingswood United Methodist Church
5015 Tilly Mill Road

Vermack Swim & Tennis Club
4756 Vermack Road

Both of these routes will take approximately 20 mins.  There will be no volunteer walking leaders from either location.

If you are unable to use one of our meeting points or make the walk from your house, please park in the GPC parking lot next door to the school and walk into the school grounds that way. Please do not park on surrounding residential streets. This creates a safety hazard and restricts access for the residents living on these streets and for emergency vehicles. Dunwoody Police will be monitoring this.

There will be extra pedestrians on the sidewalk in the morning. Remember pedestrians should always have the right of way.

We will tally walkers in the classrooms. The classroom with the most walkers will receive the Golden Sneaker Award.

The event will be held rain or shine!

This is our last Walk to School event before the winter break (we will restart in March) so make plans to join us on the sidewalk!

Please email Rosemary Gorham at [email protected] if you have any questions.

DES Dad's, did you miss the All Pro Dad Breakfast

last month?

If you answered yes, don't worry. Come to this month's meeting!

Friday, November 16 - 6:45 to 7:45am.

Please arrive for breakfast in the cafeteria (6:45 - 7:15am)

Program will begin in the media center at 7:20.

This month's topic is "Kindness"

All Pro Dad Dad's Day is a simple idea with a profound impact. It's a one-hour monthly breakfast held before school where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria. During this time, we will discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and leave equipped with resources to strengthen your relationship with your child.

The program is fun and free! All you need to do is attend, and if you want to purchase breakfast, you may do so in the cafeteria by using your child's "mylunchmoney" account, cash or check ($1.50 adults, $1.15 children). If you do not have a "mylunchmoney" account, please register for one at www.mylunchmoney.com before the meeting.

To help with keeping the parking lot and carpool drop off running smoothly, please park at GA Perimeter College and walk over to school.
