From the PTO Co-Presidents
We wanted to give a big shout out to our Tour de Dunwoody committee chairs, Sean Penn and Christine Hilgert and their committee members. On Saturday they hosted our 2nd annual Tour de Dunwoody bike event. It was a great morning for all. Thank you chairs and committee members for all your time and efforts with this event on behalf of the PTO.
Thanks to your Tiger Fund contributions, following the bike ride we also planted two Natches Crepe Myrtles in the school parking lot to replace trees that have died. These new crepe myrtles were planted to recognize the last two PTO co-presidents, Kevin Cameron and Mellie O'Keefe. We appreciate Kevin and Mellie's leadership and commitment to the PTO while they served their terms and know these two trees will be blooming reminders of the great foundations they have provided for DES.
We also want to acknowledge Robert Apple, chair of our All Pro Dad program. Robert has continued to offer this well-received program once a month for dads and their children since last year. These monthly events are funded by your Tiger Fund contributions. Thank you Robert and thank you DES families for helping support All Pro Dad!
Remember to wear red on Friday in recognition of Red Ribbon Week that was held earlier in the month and join your fellow DES friends at Brook Run on the 27th for the International Committee's Fall Fling event.
Have a great week!

 Principal's Coffee
Join us at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, for coffee, fellowship and learning in the Media Center. We will have Angela Johnson from DeKalb County School District share with us safety tips that parents may employ to help protect their children when using the internet. Angela will speak to DES parents about the adults that prey on kids while online. Please plan to join us, have a cup of coffee and learn something about keeping your child safe.

2nd Annual DES Fall Food Drive
Dunwoody Elementary will once again collect canned goods and non-perishable items to donate to the Atlanta Food Bank, Hosea Feed the Hungry and other area food donation centers.
Your PTO Community Care Committee is teaming up with the DES PE Department for this drive. Cans may be brought to the school entrance anytime beginning October 1. The last day to bring in your cans will be October 29.
Our goal is 10,000 cans. With 950 students, that's 10-11 cans donated per student. We hope you will participate in this worthy cause.
Also on the morning of October 29 we will be packing up the cans and delivering them to our organizations. Please consider volunteering on this day, we would love to have you! |
Win $10,00 for an Outdoor School Project
Our school could win $10,000 for an Outdoor School Project
We could use this money for our organic gardens, to replace trees that have died since the school was built or just to add some new landscaping to the grounds. Every penny helps!
The SCOTTIES® TREES ROCK! Video Contest was designed to energize kids to get creative and share why they think trees are an important part of our school community and why planting them is beneficial for everyone. And the best part is, our school can benefit too!
The SCOTTIES® TREES ROCK! Video Contest could award a lucky 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader at our school:
- $10,000 for a outdoors school improvement project, along with a tree planting ceremony
- $5,000, plus a trip to Grand Canyon or Yellowstone National Park and an electronic tablet
Spread the word - the more entries for our school, the better our school's chance of winning! Learn more at: www.scottiestreesrock.com |
