Message from the director
By now everyone in the community has heard about the theft and destruction of the statues from the Stimson Sculpture Garden in the front of the library. We are attempting to contact the sponsors of those two pieces to determine what can be done, if anything, to replace them. Yes, they were insured, but the molds were destroyed after their creation. However, J.B. Metals, the scrap yard they were sold to, has contacted us to try to make amends. We will keep you posted on the upcoming plans for replacement. And all this is occurring at a time when we would love to memorialize Ray Bradbury, like Jack Benny, with a full size bronze statue. Guess we'll have to factor in the price of an armed guard too.

Your Award Winning Library
| |

We are excited to announce that we have been awarded the American Library Association 2012 Marshall Cavendish Excellence in Library Programming Award for the Early Learning Center in the Children's Department. Staff from the Waukegan Public Library attended the ALA Conference in Anaheim, CA, held June 21-26, to accept the award. Public libraries nationwide compete for this annual award, which includes a $2,000 cash prize and citation of achievement. Calling the library's Early Learning Center "a model for community engagement," the ALA committee conferred the award based on the center's ongoing, innovative programs and rotating exhibits.
