A Word from Max
The story is told that a young pastor was working late in his church one evening when he wandered into a room where the Deacons were meeting. "Don't worry," he said, "I just came in to change a light bulb." Horrified, the Deacons shouted at once: "Change!?!?!"
Isn't it true that all of us are made a little uncomfortable by change? We become comfortable with the way things are, and uncertain about the unknown. And even though we know that change is an inevitable part of life, we still avoid it when possible. And this issue seems especially pronounced with church. We like our church the way it has always been.
Over the last 12 years, The Family Church has changed its weekend worship schedule and format four times. On Sunday, November 10th, we are going to change them again. The Book of Ecclesiastes says that in everything there is a season. The elders and I, after much conversation and prayer, believe that time is now for these changes. Let me outline them for you: . . .

Scripture - Matthew 21:43 - "Therefore, I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit."
Observation - This is not, in reality, a parable of "fruitfulness". After all, the owner of the vineyard built it, planted it, and put
up its walls. The only thing the tenants did was bide their time and harvest the fruit. For their little effort they were allowed to enjoy the fruit of the vineyard owner's labors. All that was required of them was a returning of a portion of the fruit to the owner of the vineyard when he called for it. It was assumed that the vineyard would be fruitful. That was a given. What was at stake was what the tenants chose to do with the fruit. Would they honor the vineyard owner by producing His portion of the fruit as He expected, or would they keep it all and use it for other, more selfish purposes? Obviously, the people in the parable chose the latter, and in doing so they lost not only the fruit but also the benefits of the Kingdom which had produced the vineyard in the first place.

Forward in Faithfulness
by Kent Young, Administrator
The Family Church was founded on July 18, 1993 when seven families joined their lives together in prayer, waiting on the Lord to birth what would be called The Family Church.
The church was granted a 501(C)(3) status on November 20, 1995. The church purchased 35+ areas of land and built a 22,518 square foot building which housed the original sanctuary, offices, and classrooms. In 2002, two modular buildings were purchased for the children and youth ministries.
As the church grew, the need for additional classrooms for children and youth necessitated the construction of our new Family Student Ministry building located directly behind the sanctuary (24,666 square feet).
Two capital campaigns to raise funds for this building have been held - the first (All Things New) in March 2006 and the second (Forward in Faithfulness) in November 2011. At the time of Forward in Faithfulness, the loan for the FSM building totaled $5.35 million. With the Lord's blessings, the church was able to refinance the loan at significantly lower interest rates.

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church
"Persecution." It is not a pretty word. Nobody wants to be the object of that word. No person with any sense of morality likes to see that word acted out on others. As ugly and revolting as it is, that word, "persecution," must not be ignored! Sunday, November 3rd is the International Day of Prayer (IDOP) for the Persecuted Church. Why do we set apart a special day to pray for the persecuted church? Because the reality is that the old cliché "out of sight, out of mind" unfortunately is true.
At this point I could go into a biblical exposition on 'persecution," what it means and how it applies to us; and it would be true. I could write extensively about how "the Church" is not about buildings, but rather people; and that would also be correct. I would wax eloquent about how persecution of the "Body of Christ" is more about the world despising our wonderful Savior, Jesus, than about the hostilities directed against His disciples; and that would equally be on target. Then I could expound upon the satanic sources of false religion that drives those who implement strategies and acts of persecution against those who love and follow Jesus calling out the Islamic nations where persecution of Christians is most severe; and though politically incorrect to say so, it would nevertheless be accurate and undeniable. All of these approaches would effectively address your individual intellects.
However, I would much rather place the emphasis of bringing the persecuted church to you in such a way that their experiential reality will touch your heart. I must warn you that this can be emotionally painful, yet it will also enlighten you about God's heart for His hurting people. Imagine for a moment that by coming to church on Sunday morning, you are likely to be cursed at and spat upon. Imagine that if you refuse to go to the mosque or stop to pray five times daily because you have pledged allegiance to King Jesus and consequently your property is damaged, you are fired from your job, or prohibited from gaining access to educational opportunities. Imagine what if would be like to have to hide to read your Bible, if you had the rare blessing to own or have access to it, for fear that if your were caught, you would be beaten. Imagine that, if out of the joy of knowing Christ personally and love for your fellow human beings, you shared the good news of eternal life in Jesus, at the risk of being thrown into prison or even being executed. If you are the boldest of people you might honestly be able to say, "I could and would do that." Now imagine that all of those things, and possible worse, would happen to those you love....your father and mother, your husband or wife, your children, and your friends all because YOU decided to follow Jesus! That is the reality of OUR brothers and sisters in Christ who are "the Persecuted Church."
This is not sensationalism; this is a reality that we cannot afford to act like it does not exist because it is so unpleasant. So what CAN we do? The obvious is PRAY, and yet we must not underestimate the POWER of intercessory prayer. When we pray for the persecuted church, we are aligning our hearts with God and He will do amazing things in US even as He strengthens, comforts, uses, and sometimes even deliverers, our brothers and sisters. Stay informed. "Voice of the Martyrs" http://www.persecution.com and "Open Doors" http://www.opendoorsusa.org are two reputable ministries that focus on persecution worldwide. They offer practical suggestions for writing campaigns.
My Thankfulness to My Hope
As we move into the month of November and the Thanksgiving season, let us remember that the freedom we have to worship Christ should not be taken for granted. Also, let us take advantage of the freedom we have to proclaim Christ. This is an act of obedience, an act of worship, and an act of kindness. Not only does it honor God, but it also honors our persecuted brethren who die daily for the things that we can freely do, but often neglect to do. No condemnation... just understanding. Please do not forget that November 7th is the nationwide kickoff for My Hope with Billy Graham, so invite those neighbors and friends to your homes to meet Jesus!
Blessings!

Jesus in Running Shoes
For a couple of Sundays in October, you may have seen two women in running attire in front of the church when you walked into church. Carol Hamilton and Jennifer Arnold were advertising a new affinity group, Running by THE BOOK (RBTB), for anyone who is interested in training to run either a 10K or half marathon in February. They will be using Corinne Baur's book to provide a blueprint to develop them both physically and spiritually. If you have any interest in this group, please email Carol Hamilton at carolbr@ufl.edu.
An affinity group is a group formed around a shared interest or common goal. This is a powerful means to reach out to those outside of the Christian faith. What do you like to do that you can do with others? Golf, bowling, fantasy football, couponing, shopping, frisbee golf, workout, scrapbooking, riding motorcycles, etc? If you are interested in using your hobbies to expose other to the gospel, contact Pastor Aaron at:

Giving Thanks during Periods of Suffering
"...give thanks in all circumstances, for this isGod's will for you in Christ Jesus."1 Thess. 5:18
For many years the Babylonians held the Israelites in bondage. After King Cyrus of the Medo-Persian Empire conquered the Babylonians, God stirred the heart of Cyrus to give the Israelites their temple back.
In Ezra 3 we read about the rebuilding of the altar so that the exiled Israelites could again freely worship their God. Once the altar was complete, the rebuilding of the temple itself began. There was much rejoicing and thanksgiving. The people raised their voices to openly acknowledge God's hand in forgiving them of their sins and bringing them back home. "With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord: 'He is so good! His love for Israel endures forever!'" Ezra 3:11a.
God is always at work in our lives-past, present, and future-even when we feel "in exile" or as if our lives are on hold. . . .

Unfossilized Dinosaur Tissue
Stephen F. Larner, PhD
 | |
Figure 1: Soft tissue with branching blood vessels and red blood cells. Left: The flexible branching structures in the T. rex bone were identified as "blood vessels". Right: The microscopic structures were able to be squeezed out of some of the blood vessels, and can be seen to "look like cells" per the researchers.
|
When is a fossil not a fossil? Evolutionist Dr. Mary Schweitzer reported in 1997 that a piece of T. rex bone was unfossilized and contained red blood cells. When examined more closely, immunologically and spectroscopically, there was evidence for the presence of hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying protein that gives red blood cells their color1. Evidence of hemoglobin and the still-recognizable shapes of red blood cells, in unfossilized dinosaur bone is powerful testimony against the whole idea of dinosaurs living millions of year's ago.2 However, to the true evolutionary believer that is unacceptable.
A well-preserved T. rex skeleton, unearthed in the USA in 1990, was brought to a Montana State University lab. Here during normal examination it was noticed that 'some parts deep inside the long bone of the leg had not completely fossilized.' Mary Schweitzer's co-workers noted, while looking through a microscope at a thin section of this T. rex bone, it had complete blood vessels with red blood cells (Figure 1)3.

Believers Who Have Died
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.15 According to the Lord's word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
