The state Department of Higher Education will spotlight top students from across Massachusetts at the fourth annual "29 Who Shine" recognition ceremony on Thursday, May 8, at the Grand Staircase of the Massachusetts State House. The awards honors 29 outstanding public college and university graduates, one from each community college, state university and UMass campus in the state, for their academic achievement and community service.
Kathleen A. Matson, a highly regarded student leader on campus and across the state who will earn an associate degree in Business Administration in May, is among the honorees. A motivated, enthusiastic leader with a passion for helping others, Matson has served this academic year as the student member on the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, among numerous other leadership and volunteer activities.
The ceremony also includes recognition of each honoree's faculty or staff mentor. Matson selected Associate Dean of Students Gregory Clement as her mentor.
Singer-songwriter Whitney Doucet, a 2013 graduate of MWCC, has been selected to perform "America the Beautiful" during the ceremony.
