MWCC STEM Programs Showcased at DHE Event
Student Trustee Jillian Johnson and biotechnology majors David Boivin and Michelle Despres helped showcase MWCC at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education's Go Public! event on Nov. 12 at North High School in Worcester.
  
Go Public! gives Massachusetts high school students a chance to discover the programs and opportunities available at the state's 29 public college and university campuses. Approximately 400 seniors from North, South, Doherty and Burncoat high schools attended the Worcester event.
  
This year's events focused on STEM majors, certificate programs and internship opportunities.

 

 MWCC Receives Continued Recognition by Military Times as Best for Vets

Mount Wachusett Community College has earned national recognition for its support for veterans from several military-focused organizations over the past several years. On Veterans Day, Military Times once again named MWCC to its Best for Vets: Colleges 2014 rankings. MWCC was ranked fourth nationally for two-year schools. The full rankings include 120 four-year, two-year, online and nontraditional schools. The top schools in each category are being showcased in the November issue of Military Times EDGE magazine, the premier publication for military transition, and affiliated Gannet Company publications and websites, including USA Today and the newsweeklies Military Times, Army Times, Navy Times. Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times.

 Area Legislators Wish MWCC a Happy 50th Anniversary

Area lawmakers traveled to Mount Wachusett Community College for a legislative breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Following the meeting, the North Central Massachusetts delegation presented a resolution congratulating the college on its 50th anniversary. The resolution notes MWCC's growth and academic excellence over the past five decades, as well as its leadership in the areas of civic engagement and renewable energy.  MWCC was established in Gardner on Nov. 8, 1963 as one of the first eight of 15 community colleges in Massachusetts.

Peace Pole Dedication Concludes MWCC's Anniversary Celebration, 
Marks Start of Next Half Century

Students, faculty and staff of all ages gathered at the Gardner campus on Nov. 7 for a Peace Pole dedication. The pole, engraved "May peace prevail on earth" in eight languages, is a gift to the college from students in honor of MWCC's 50th anniversary.

MWCC Student Competing in Miss Massachusetts Teen USA Pageant
When Ketheny Dutka was 11 years old and living in Brazil, she could not imagine what it would be like to live in the U.S. Now, she cannot envision being anywhere else. "I'm here and I love it," said Dutka, 18, a business administration major at Mount Wachusett Community College, who will be competing this month in the Miss Massachusetts Teen USA pageant.

Theatre at the Mount Announces 2014 Season
MWCC's Theatre at the Mount announces its 2014 season of plays, which includes the Tony Award-winning musicals Les Miserables, Chicago and Annie.
