Civic Engagement Key Focus at State Board of Higher Education Meeting

Civic engagement was a featured topic during the state Board of Higher Education's Oct. 29 meeting, held at MWCC.

 

President Daniel M. Asquino and members of the board's Civic Learning and Engagement task force provided the full board with eight recommendations on how to develop a statewide civic learning strategy as part of the Vision Project's key learning outcome, "preparing citizens."

 

MWCC's leadership and success in civic engagement initiatives also were featured in the Department of Higher Education's newly released Vision Project annual report, Within Our Sights: Inside Campus Efforts to Achieve National Leadership in Public Higher Education.

 

The meeting was also the first attended by its newest member - MWCC SGA President Kathy Matson, who began a one-year term representing of all public higher education students in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts Educational Opportunity Association Event Focuses On STEM And Dual Enrollment 
Massachusetts Secretary of Education Dr. Matthew Malone was the keynote speaker during the Massachusetts Educational Opportunity Association's 29 annual scholarship luncheon on Oct. 29 in Devens. Educators from MWCC's Division of Access and Transition, including several who serve in leadership roles with the state organization, were among the participants.
 MWCC Receives 3 NCMPR Awards for Communications Excellence

The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, District 1, has awarded three Medallion Awards for excellence in communications to Mount Wachusett Community College. The awards were announced on Oct. 21 during the District 1 annual conference in Mystic, CT. Nearly 300  entries were submitted in 40 categories.

United Way Youth Venture Fall Kick-off 2013

More than 400 students from area schools traveled to MWCC for the United Way Youth Venture of North Central Massachusetts Fall Kick Off on Oct. 18. A partnership between the United Way of North Central Massachusetts, MWCC, and Ashoka's Youth Venture, the program encourages young people to initiate positive, lasting social change in their communities.

The Mount Players to Debut with Wilder's "The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden"

Those who appreciate Thornton Wilder's, Our Town, will love to experience The Mount Players' production of his one-act play, The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden. Originally performed in 1931, The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden won a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Play at the Circle in the Square Theatre in 1993. Now in 2013, theatre goers will have a chance to see another revival of Wilder's work by The Mount Players, in their first production at MWCC on Nov. 19.
