 It's no secret. Start researching a new bicycle or plan a trip and before you know it, each page you view has advertisements designed to capitalize on your previous search. Test it? Clear your cookies and the subsequent browsing will be free of those advertisements. Better than 25% of a browser's work is just tracking you. That effort also translates into delay in completing that page request.
Enter DoNotTrackMe (disconnect.me), a free browser extention that blocks those trackers. It works with all the major browsers. Make the web safer and faster for yourself. DoNotTrackMe stops any attempt to log data related to who, what and where activity. Additionally, when you click on the DoNotTrackMe button you get an immediate list of the companies tracking you from the web page your viewing. If the tracking on the page is necessary, say to complete a purchase or send an inquiry, then you can disable DoNotTrackMe with the push of a button.
Finally, social networks like Facebook use buttons (IE the "Like" button) to track not only your activities on their web page but also to investigate where on the web you've been. DoNotTrackMe stops that too.

Capturing Video off the Web

 Looking to download that YouTube video? Try Ilivid.com a free download tool that lets you grab videos from the net. It should be noted that some content on the web is proprietary. Also, Ilivid tries to sneak a variety of installs by with its' own installation so take care to select only Ilivid and only the additions that you want.
FVD (Flash Video Downloader) is another video capture and download utility that you should have as there are videos that Ilivid can't grab and vice versa.
Finally, Microsoft offers Movie Maker, a free utility to help you burn that video. Look here for Movie Maker and a slew of free utilities that Micosoft offers for all the versions of Windows from XP and on up.

Smartphone Power - FYI

Get more battery life out of your cell: Here's how.
- Dim the screen (Brightness) - A major source of power drain.
- Adjust your screen timeout - Screen shuts off after a given period of time, but this feature is adjustable.
- Turn off Wi-Fi. Also shut down automatic Wi-Fi, a feature that automatically turns on your Wi-Fi when you click on certain icons (like Photo Gallery).
- Turn off Vibrate - Vibrate eats more juice than a plain ring.

Lookout security for android and Iphone has a great new feature. The front facing camera will take a picture of the person attempting to get into your phone after 3 password entry attempts and email it to you. This presumes of course you add an entry password to your phone.
