MEB KEFLEZIGHI
Meb was just a boy when he, his eight siblings, and his parents fled Eritrea, Ethopia to live in San Diego, California. They were crammed into a tiny apartment and the father supported the family by working long hours at several jobs. None of them spoke English so the parents and the children started each day at 4:30am studying the dictionary so they could succeed in America. His parents taught him to believe that his dreams could be achieved by hard work and discipline.
Meb at 41 is the oldest American Olympic marathoner in history. Just two years ago he won the prestigious Boston Marathon. His training regimen for the Rio Olympics required him to train differently than he did at age 25. He paid attention to his body aches and pains and adjusted his workouts accordingly. With age came wisdom.
Meb didn't have the Olympic marathon he may have dreamed of but he never gave up and might have exited the games in the most memorable way possible. Click the link to see.
