Jack Stock Walking In With Pneumonia
Jack Sock, US tennis player, was ranked 23rd in the world and had hopes of winning a medal in Rio. The day before he left for the Rio Olympics he was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. Many healthy athletes had already chosen not to go to Rio because of the health concerns in that city. What would Jack Sock do? Would he cancel? No, he got on a plane and coughed his way throughout the 5,000 mile journey. Some wondered if he was just going to make a token appearance. It looked like that was the case when he lost quickly in straight sets to Taro Daniel of Japan who was ranked 118th.  While this defeat was humbling, it's understandable because pneumonia is draining. Some wondered if Jack might need to withdraw from the Olympics. Not Jack! He's not a quitter!!

Jack Stock Walking Out With The Gold
He went on to win a bronze medal with his doubles partner Steve Johnson. Then he and his mixed doubles partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands won Gold in a 10-7 tiebreaker against Rajeev Ram and the legendary Venus Williams.
