Children and Self-confidence
|
Our self-confidence and belief in ourselves begins early in our childhood.
How do we teach our children to believe in themselves? An example would be
when your child has achieved a goal. First have the child acknowledge self and
then you acknowledge them. i.e. "I bet you are proud of yourself. I'm proud of you
too."
|
How do you teach adults/employees to believe in themselves?
|
Give them a project whereby they can feel successful. Don't overwhelm. When
they feel they are making a contribution, it increases their awareness of their own
abilities. Even qualified people don't know all the specifics of a new company or a
new culture; giving them more information will allow them to feel more
confident.
|
EXERCISE
|
This week I invite you to reflect on the following:
- Are you judgmental or critical of others or new employees?
- Do you expect too much without giving enough information?
- How do you effectively communicate to help others believe in themselves?
- This week create an opportunity to use this new technique with a child.
