In her book "The Upside of Stress: Why Stress is Good for You and How to Get Good at It" Kelly McGonigal cites a study of 30,000 adults who were followed for 8 years. Those who reported feeling a lot of stress had a 43% increase risk of dying, but this was true only for those who also believed that the stress was dangerous to their health.
The report indicates that those who didn't believe that stress was dangerous were at no higher risk for death; they actually had a lower risk than those who reported not having any stress.
Kelly says that changing your attitude about stress can actually make you healthier.
