Got your taxes done?
This is probably the most frequently asked question this week. In our last issue (click here) we talked about breathing and mindfulness. How can this be useful to getting our taxes done?
Still working on your tax return?
For those of you still working on your return, here are a few tips to reduce the stress.
The first step is to prepare your mindset and workspace:
  • Create a clean and large work space
  • Music
  • Good lighting
  • Keep focused by eliminating distractions, such as your phone.
  • Glass of water, wine, or bottle of beer
  • Collect all your paperwork and receipts
  • Place a picture of someone smiling at you or a funny picture on your work space.
Now you're at your work space. Here's some more tips:
  • Congratulate yourself for making the time to get it done.
  • Imagine how good you'll feel when you complete this task. Promise yourself a reward upon completion.

  • Breathe deeply, calmly, and naturally.
  • Smile - it changes your mood.
  • Plan a break. Every half an hour take a break.  Get up and stretch and refill your beverage.
Mindfulness for next year.
  • Create a plan to reduce the stress for next year's tax return.
  • Organize your papers or computer files on at least a monthly basis instead of scrambling at the last minute. This gives us a sense of security or control.
  • Consider getting the help of an accountant.
Exercise
Please share with me how today's issue is helpful to you this week or for your tax preparation next year. Are today's tips helpful to you on any other current project?  I welcome any of your tips or feedback.
