What is Mismatching?
| |
Mismatching is described in Thomas Freeze's book "Question Based Selling" as a form of disagreement. It's a response where someone takes an opposite position (sometimes innocently). It's not always intended to be argumentative or confrontational.
|
|
Examples of Mismatching
| |
1. You say to a friend "I'm really excited to be going to the lake this weekend and it's supposed to be beautiful weather." Your friend replies "Really, I heard it's going to be really hot." [or rainy, or too humid, etc.]
2. Suppose your birthday is tomorrow, Sept. 29 and someone texts you today with a Happy Birthday message. Then you text back with "Thanks so much. FYI, my birthday is tomorrow."
|
|
Why Do People Mismatch?
| |
People mismatch usually because they want to add new information to a conversation which then makes themselves (the Mismatcher) feel more valued.
