"You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with."
These are the words of Jim Rohn, acclaimed author and self made multimillionaire. Do you agree with him? As parents we encourage our children to choose certain persons as friends and stay away from others. So it's no surprise as adults that we also can decide with whom we want to spend our time, share our life, or with whom we want to be in business.
Where do you find your five people?
They can be family members, coworkers, friends, neighbors, members of your civic or religious group, mentors, teammates, business coaches, personal trainers, life coaches, etc.
Exercise
List the five people with whom you spend the most time and answer these questions for each of them.
1. Do they encourage, inspire, and energize you? Are they positive people? If so, put a + next to their name.
2. Do they discourage you, tear you down, constantly criticizes you, bash your dreams, complain or whine, or spread gossip? Do they de-energize you? If so, put a - next to their name.
3. Which of these five people most demonstrate your definition of success?
We will continue this series following our special Labor Day issue.
