SMILES
| |
Traditional thinking was that smiles were expressions of joy and happiness and that those good feelings caused the smiles. Recent studies, however, show that smiling can actually precede and generate the good feelings, often leading to better emotional and physical health.
|
|
THE ANATOMY OF A SMILE
| |
There is support for the theory that "smile muscles" at the corners of our mouths change our blood flow, which then reduces our blood temperature. That cooler blood then causes a release of chemicals that make us feel better.
|
|
SMILING IS YOUR CHOICE
| |
While smiling is not always appropriate and is not a cure-all, new studies give hope because we can, to a significant degree, choose to generate our own good feelings and reduce tension and sadness when we make the decision to smile.

EXERCISE
| |
This week I invite you to do the following:
-
Practice your smile with a family member, a friend, or a stranger.
-
Be prepared for a situation that could lead to frustration or anger. When the situation happens, practice your smile and observe your body's reaction.
-
Observe how you respond to someone who is frowning.
-
Observe how you respond to someone who is smiling.
I'll look forward to hearing from you. |
