SAVERS

In Hal Rod's book "Miracle Mornings" he suggests a six step guide for a fulfilling day. He uses the acronym SAVERS:

 

Silence

Affirmation

Visualization

Exercise (physical)

Reading

Scribing (Journaling) for gratitude


 

Silence/Meditation

Today we will discuss the first step. The benefits of silence in the form of meditation is becoming more widely known. We all have worries, doubts, and stress. These can cause us to become frozen in our thoughts or to panic or anxiety attacks. Research at Stanford University by Phillippe Goldin shows that meditation which he calls "mindfulness meditation" actually changes the way the brain responds to negative thoughts. His study shows that the meditator decreased activation in the AMYGDALA-a region of the brain associated with stress and anxiety. 

My experience in meditation is an emptying and peacefulness that predisposes me to handle more effectively the stress of the day. Emptying is clearing the mind and letting go of my thoughts as quickly as they enter my mind. Enjoy the silence free of judgment and expectations. Start by taking three deep breaths.
Exercise

This week I invite you to do the following.


 

1. Do you have any negative thoughts about your ability to meditate?  If so, then use your "delete key" from issue 85 "Maintaining Positive Thinking by using your Delete Key."  Click here to view Issue 85.

2. Create your own quiet place in or outside your home, sit comfortably, and breathe normally. Simply
empty yourself.

3. I invite you to spend 5 minutes in silence/meditation at least two days in the next week.  Enjoy the silence free of judgement and expectations.
