THE CALL
|
The "shot heard round the world" is the phrase for the beginning of the American Revolution. Now let's talk about a call that was not only heard but also seen live in over 200 countries by hundreds of millions of people in yesterday's Super Bowl. We know the setting: second down and 18 inches (some of the players have feet nearly that large) from being the champions, the unstoppable running back Marshawn Lynch, and ample time for at least two running plays. Shockingly, Seattle passes and forfeits the victory.
The decision has confounded viewers and experts. KC Sports writer, Sam Mellinger, in today's paper said "Coach Carroll gave the bizarre explanation that 'We were going to run the ball in to win the game, but not on that down'."

THE KISS LESSON
|
Why would a coach, forsake the greatest strength and his greatest resource?
Was Coach Carroll being clever, over-thinking it, or going for the dramatic? What do you think?
For me, the lesson is the KISS. "Keep It Simple Stupid". Just run the ball. How could you apply this lesson in your life or in your business?

EXERCISE
|
This week I invite you to reflect on the following:
- Look at the projects that you are planning, decisions that you are making, goals that you are setting. Are you over thinking? Are you over planning?
- Are you overlooking your greatest strengths and resources? And those of your team?
- Are you prone to taking unnecessary risks or advocating change for change sake, when there is a proven (although predictable and boring) alternative?
I am trained to coach you in achieving your goals with more clarity and less stress. I can help you discover and develop your hidden strengths and the strengths of your team members. Just pick up the phone and call me 816-213-0125. Let's talk.
