The Story of Noah
|
The baseball season has ended. Congratulations to San Francisco for another championship. Special congratulations go to the Kansas City Royals for providing an exciting and dramatic season which culminated in winning the silver medal in baseball. There are different meanings to the word "winning". The Noah Wilson story is truly a winner. Noah is a six year old recently diagnosed with a rare and serious disease causing him to be hospitalized and requiring chemotherapy. He is a KC Royals fan but had to watch most of the games from his hospital bed. Neither he nor his parents ever thought that he would be able to go to a World Series game.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game and The Miracle Of The Multiplication Of World Series Tickets
|
As reported by Dugan Arnett in the KC Star, Ryan Zimmerman, a neighbor of Noah, started a "GoFundMe" page to raise money to send Noah and his father to a World Series game. Very quickly someone responded with tickets for Noah and his entire family. But the generosity didn't stop there. To the surprise of Noah's family donations started coming in from all over the country and totaled $10,000. What a wonderful surprise for Noah's parents who undoubtedly are experiencing some huge medical bills and other costs. But wait! Here comes an even bigger surprise. Noah's family spent the entire $10,000 to buy tickets to the World Series for families in similar circumstances. So, right here in Kansas City we have the miracle of the multiplication of World Series tickets.

Three Characteristics Of A Great Heart
|
As we know, Kansas City is known as the Heart of America, so it is only fitting that Noah's heart warming story occurred here in Kansas City. The story tells us of three characteristics of a great heart:
- Compassionate Heart - Noah's Neighbor
- Generous Heart - Noah's Parents
- Courageous Heart - Noah Himself

This week I invite you to reflect on the following:
- Remember a time when you needed help or hope and was surprised by someone's compassion or generosity. How did that make you feel? How did that change you?
- Is there someone you know (or even a stranger) that you could surprise with an act of compassion or generosity? e.g., Cheering up or sending a gift to a person that is home bound, hospital bound, nursing home bound, or bound by any other of life's struggles.
