THE ABC'S FOR MANAGING PROCRASTINATION

Affirmative self-talk.  Instead of falling into a negative self-talk, say something like "Now I am going to rethink this and take one step at a time. I can do it."

Break a large task into smaller goals.

Create a proactive plan for making an effective habit or routine. For example,

  • If you have a tendency to put off your morning workout, then try placing your workout gear next to your bed for you to get into as soon as you arise.
  • At work spend the first 30 minutes on a project that needs attention rather than reading emails and taking phone calls.
  • Plan your environment and your routine to remove the temptation. E.g. move your email app or Facebook app from your main screen to a folder or the second screen.
EXERCISE

This week I invite you to do the following:

1. Take a minute to think about something you said you'd do yesterday but still haven't done.

2. How would it benefit you to create a plan that establishes an effective habit or routine in order to stay on task?

3. Set one short-term goal toward accomplishing a long-term goal.
