DEFINITION OF RESPECT

Respect comes in several varieties:

  1. Business Respect.  Deep admiration or high regard for someone's abilities, qualities, or achievements in the workplace.
  2. Personal Respect.   Proper acceptance or courtesy shown to a co-worker.

IS RESPECT A PROBLEM IN THE WORKPLACE?

Today we will focus on personal respect in the workplace.

Barbara Richman reports for the Lorman Company that a research study indicates that 40% of U.S. employees consider their co-workers' behavior so annoying and negative that they are searching for new employment.  She reports that this rampant disrespect drains productivity, thereby negatively impacting your organization.

EXERCISE

This week I invite you to reflect on the following:

  1. Do you know if your behavior at times could be perceived as being disrespectful or disruptive and thereby negatively impacting your business team?

  2. Do you find the behavior of any of your co-workers to be disrespectful of you?                          If so, do you know when and how to deal with the situation?

  3. How do you think that lack of communication rather than lack of respect can be causing the problem?

I am trained and experienced in coaching people and organizations to communicate effectively and to more objectively look at their own behaviors and the behaviors of their co-workers.  Just call me soon at 816-213-0125.  I'll be happy to assist you.
