TWO EAGLE SCOUTS & THE EAGLE

Recently I was privileged to give the key note address at The Eagle Scout Court of Honor recognizing Jake Ruthrauff and Jonathon Rabanal for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. This coveted achievement requires commitment, sacrifice, perseverance and is usually a predictor of a lifelong leadership role. While preparing my remarks for the Eagle Scouts, I decided to research America's national bird, the eagle. This bird represents a symbol of the swiftness of a powerful leader.

QUALITIES OF THE EAGLE/LEADER

Today I will focus on two of the qualities of the eagle/leader:

  1. EXTRAORDINARY VISION

. A great leader must often have extraordinary vision in order to see what everyone else misses. Imagine the eagle as a leader. Create a picture in your mind of 5 buildings, each the size of the Empire State building, stacked on top of each other. An eagle on the top of that building can actually spot a rabbit on the ground, which is over 5,000 feet down.  Truly extraordinary vision!

  2. SWIFT AND DECISIVE ACTION. Since the rabbit can run quickly, the eagle must make a decision and strike fast. Some eagles can dive as fast as 100 miles per hour, which means the eagle can dive from this height of 5,000 ft and strike the rabbit in approximately 30 seconds. Likewise, an outstanding leader must be prepared to take swift action after making a decision.

EXERCISE
This week I invite you to reflect on the following:
  1. Do you have an idea or a vision that you are ready to swiftly strike?
  •  If so, what is it?
  • What swift action do you need to take now?

I regularly coach individuals and organizations in formulating Mission/Vision Statements that are powerful.  If you are willing to persevere and make a commitment, I am available to assist you.  Just pick up the phone or send an email.  johngordoncoach@yahoo.com
