YOUR 2014 GOALS OR DREAMS
|
What is your big goal or dream for 2014? Think big! What would you do if money, or education, or experience were not obstacles?
|
YOUR SABOTEURS
|
In our last issue number 258 we discussed ways to express "Happy New Ears". Today we expand that by discussing how to overcome some other possible saboteurs.
In "Do the Work" author Steven Pressfield asserts that your two saboteurs or enemies are:
- Your chattering brain. If you give this chattering brain just a nanosecond, it will begin mass producing creative but flimsy alibis, excuses, and justifications to convince you that you shouldn't do it, can't do it, need more education, more skills, more money, etc.
- Preparation. Then the chattering brain becomes obsessed with preparations and tells you that your preparation requires thorough research, examining every possible "what if" scenario and reading multiple books by experts. Your chattering brain will usually tell you that your friends and family will judge you as crazy for even considering this big dream.
|
YOUR 2 ALLIES-BE RECKLESS & STUBBORN (CHARLES LINDBERGH) |
- Reckless. Be reckless if you really want to get started. Disavow your chattering brain. People have accomplished great things, especially when they were considered reckless in the eyes of others. Charles Lindbergh is a great example. What kind of resistance and chattering must have been going on inside his brain while struggling to raise funds for his attempted solo trans-Atlantic flight. The critics all thought he was too young (only 25) and inexperienced without credentials or credibility. All other pilots had failed in their attempts, and the critics told him he was crazy, reckless, and would drown in the Atlantic. But Lindbergh didn't listen. Instead he visualized landing his "Spirit of St. Louis" plane at Le Bourget airport near Paris after having flown solo and non-stop from New York. He visualized himself as the first person to ever do this. The naysayers and warnings of critics swirled against him, much like the winds he would encounter on his flight. He overcame all of this through his stubbornness and his passion.
- Stubborn. Once you commit to a project or to action, use your stubbornness as a friend. Tenacity and perseverance are lofty words, but they conjure up heroic standards or supernatural qualities. Isn't it a lot easier just to say you're stubborn and that you're not going to quit? And that you mean it!

-
What areas in your business, organization, or life are you stubborn enough to reach your goals?
I successfully coach people to reach their goals and dreams by helping them overcome their own brain chatter and their own compulsion to perfectionism and over preparation. I am available to assist you in 2014. Invest in yourself. You're worth it! Just pick up the phone.
