SLEEP INTERRUPTERS

In issue 249, we discussed some health risks associated with sleep deprivation. In this issue, we turn to sleep interruption and look at possible causes.

  • Waking up between 11 PM and 1 AM for gall bladder relief:  This could mean that salt and fat have not been metabolized or digested properly.
  • Waking up between 1 AM and 3 AM:  Often this means that refined sugars or alcohol have aggravated the liver.

  • Waking up between 3 AM and 5 AM:  This is often connected with some lung issue.
  • Waking up anytime during the night:
    • Drugs  - (especially those used to treat high blood pressure) can disturb sleep.
    • Liquids - excessive liquids within two hours prior to going to bed.

EXERCISE

I invite you to do the following:

  1. If you are waking up during the night, I invite you to start charting the times when you wakeup and then determine whether any of the causes listed above apply.
  2. After you've charted your wakeup patterns, I encourage you to consider whether you are open to changing some habits.

Nature's  soft nurse, how have I frightened thee,
That thou no more wilt weigh my eyelids down
And steep my senses in forgetfulness?"
